CODE OF CONDUCTS FOR CLUB MEMBERS, PAENTS/GUARDIANS, CLUB
OFFICIALS & COACHES/PARENT HELPERS
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MEMBERS
• Listen to and respect your Coach • Be organised and on time for training
remembering your kit and a drink
• Welcome new Members to the club even if you don't know them
• Notify your Coach if you have to go somewhere
•Be enthusiastic and enjoy your sport
•Be kind and supportive to Fellow Members
• Tell Parents/Guardians, Coaches or the Club Welfare Officer if anything makes you
concerned or uncomfortable
•Respect your sport environment and the Pool / Bike And Run Venue rules
• Respect Opponents and Fellow Athletes
• Win or lose graciously
• Play within the rules and respect Officials at competitions and their decisions
• Always act with care and never do anything that could cause harm to Yourself or
Others
• Don't use bad language, smoke or display misappropriate behaviour
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS
 Ensure you arrive at sessions at least 5 minutes before the start and that your
child has the appropriate kit for the session
 Encourage your child to learn the rules of the sport and take part within them
 Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials and coaches/parent helpers
 Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results
 Do not leave a child until the session has started and be there for it finishing
 Inform the session coach of any illness or disability that needs to be taken into
account and only bring them to sessions if they are fit to take part
 Pay all fees on time
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR OFFICIALS, COACHES/PARENT HELPERS AND
VOLUNTEERS
 Consider the well-being and safety of participants before the development of
performance.
 Develop an appropriate working relationship with performers, based on
mutual trust and respect.
 Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of
those taking part
 Promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play)
 Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance
 Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body and the club
 Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover
 Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or
reward
 Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibitive substances
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS & GUARDIANS
Parents have full responsibility for their children outside the coached session
times
 Encourage your child to attend sessions regularly and promptly
 Encourage your child to learn the BTF rules and participate within them.
 Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
 Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
 Never force your child to take part in sport.
 Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good
performances of all.
 Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
 Publicly accept officials’ judgements.
 Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their sport
 Use correct and proper language at all times.
Performance enhancing drugs
 Triathlon England retains a list of banned drugs. Use of drugs on this list is
prohibited.
 Illegal drugs and substances. The use of these even though they may not appear
on the official banned list in respect of enhancing performance drugs
is nonetheless prohibited.
Sanctions
 Breaches of the Code of Conduct shall be dealt with, in the first instance by
the Club or Official in charge at the time. Depending on the seriousness of
the breach, the incident may be reported to British Triathlon who may take further
action.
 Except that breaches under Performance Enhancing Drugs and Illegal Drugs and
Substances and any conduct alleged to have brought the sport into disrepute
shall be notified directly to Triathlon England which is responsible for initiating
disciplinary proceedings under relevant Triathlon England Rules.
