Executive Branch
• The Executive Branch is the President
– He is responsible for carrying out laws
– He approves bills or vetoes bills. (If he vetoes a
bill it means that the bill will not be made into a
law.
– He appoints justices. Justices are judges in the
Supreme Court.
– He can make treaties. They are agreements with
other countries.
Legislative Branch
• The Legislative Branch is the Congress.
– The Congress is made up of the Senate and the
House of Representatives.
– It can override the President if he vetoes a bill.
– It can approve treaties.
– It can make Federal courts.
– It may impeach Justices and the President.
Judicial Branch
• It is the federal court system.
– It decides whether the laws are constitutional
which means they decide if they go against the
Constitution.
– It decides the meaning of laws.
– It interprets laws and treaties and decides if they
are legal under the Constitution.
– It decides if the President’s actions are
constitutional.
