County begins next round of summer paving projects

The George County Board of Supervisors is
beginning the next round of summer paving
projects starting June 15. Paving crews will be
working in the Agricola, Benndale, Bexley,
Central, Howell, and Shipman communities over
the next six to eight weeks, weather permitting.
“One of the most expensive parts of paving work
is the mobilization; getting the asphalt equipment
moved into your county,” Board President Larry
McDonald explained. “All five supervisors have
been coordinating their road work schedules
together for months to be ready at the same time.
The paving crews and equipment are now making
their way through each beat.”
This round of paving is a combination of scheduled roadway
maintenance and needed repairs due to the natural gas
transmission line that was installed across the County. As
expected, heavy equipment usage during the gas line’s
installation caused roadway damage. County supervisors are
managing the repairs and costs are being paid by Boardwalk
Pipeline.
Residents will only experience intermittent road closures
during paving work. All drivers are asked to use caution around
construction sites. Pay special attention to traffic signs, road
workers and heavy equipment. The County began the first
round of summer paving the week of June 1.
