CHANTS IN THE
COMMUNITY
he Coastal Carolina baseball team has
assisted in several projects around the
Myrtle Beach community. All of the
Chanticleers helped out at the Grand Strand
Miracle League. The GSML is a baseball
league specifically designed for children with
mental and physical disabilities. The Miracle
League is currently serving 80 children from
Horry & Georgetown Counties and has six
teams and plays two eight-week seasons per
year. The Chanticleers also participated in the
United Way Day of Caring and have set up a
mentoring program at local elementary schools.
ATHLETIC
TRAINING
he Coastal Carolina Sports Medicine
program helps all Chanticleer athletes
stay healthy and ready for game action.
Assistant Athletic Trainer Barry Lippman, ATC,
has a baseball-specific training method that has
a proactive approach. His work with the Chants
is baseball specific and he works hand-in-hand
with Strength and Conditioning Coach Brian
Gabriel to keep the Chants in peak condition.
New in 2008 is the athletic training facility in the
clubhouse for immediate access in case of injury
on the field. Lippman also helps the Chants with
vision training, allowing Coastal’s hitters and
pitchers to see the ball better during the game.
DID YOU KNOW?
Coastal was one of only seven teams
in Division 1 baseball to win 40
or more games from 2001-2005. CCU
won a school and Big South record
50 games in 2005 and earned 46 wins
in 2003. The following is the list
of schools that have won 40 or more
games from 2001-2005:

CONDITIONING AND
STRENGTH
he Coastal Carolina University baseball
team gets stronger and quicker with the
strength and conditioning program led
by Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Brian
Gabriel. Gabriel’s workout is built on speed
and explosiveness to gear the Chanticleers up
for the rigors of a baseball season. Coastal’s
team average in the hang clean, the bench
press and the back squat all showed a dramatic
improvement from September to December.
Gabriel also works hand in hand with athletic
trainer Barry Lippman to make sure Coastal’s
baseball players are in the best shape they can be.
“The Coastal Carolina
University baseball program
is all about the blue collar
worker attitude. It has taught
me to be mentally tough in
all aspects of the game.”
- Chris Carter 1998-2001
