Greetings all FASSE Members!
I would like to tell you what the board has been doing. First the committees have been meeting
to start the discussion for negotiation. There’s still time to voice your concerns and thoughts.
Contact a board member to share your ideas.
If you are interested in changing your position within the county now is the time to complete the
voluntary transfer form. If you need help or have any questions Rachel Whitaker in Human
Resources can assist you. Her extension is 45088.
The FASSE board will need your support on MAY 6th; when FCPS county budget will be unveiled.
Your attendance is of the utmost importance. More information will be coming out to your
building reps soon.
Please know that if you are in need of assistance we are just a phone call away.
It is my pleasure to be your President and to serve you.

John Gates. I think we have a good list of
concerns that deal with the FCPS custodians.

Meet the New IA on the Board of Directors
I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mitzi Smith, the Science Lab Assistant at
Walkersville High School. I was an elementary and middle school teacher in Washington and
Frederick Counties for 30 years when I retired in 2000. Two weeks later I found myself in high
school again after 45 years!! This is my 14th year doing a job I love, since Science is my thing! I have
been a FASSE representative for most of my time at WHS. I believe in this association and helping
other ESP’s in my building with issues as they arise. I live in Woodsboro with my husband, Gary,
who by the way is its Burgess. I guess that makes me the “First Lady!”
I look forward to an exciting year helping with negotiating our new contract and everything that
entails. I can be reached at [email protected] or 240-236-7274.
All Members
MSEA is gearing up for the 2014 Election in a very big way and we need your help. In Frederick County we
have a great opportunity to elect public officials that will support our work and our schools. As you know, the
current majority of County Commissioners are no friend of public education and some members of the School
Board have publically stated that we should privatize many critical positions that are currently held by
talented, benefited individuals. We cannot allow this mentality to prevail. We need every member to commit to
vote and commit to getting involves in our campaign to elect pro-public education candidates.

“You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any
direction you choose.”
We know it has been a long cold winter.
Spring is almost here. Patti and I hope to
hold a round-table meeting in the near
future and would like to hear from you.
Please send us an email if you are interested.
Happy Spring!!!!!!

Instead of this
“You two in seat 3, I have told you time and time
again to keep your hands to yourselves. What part
of that is so difficult to wrap your little minds around
Now, sit there and keep your hands off each other.”
Say This
“Lisa and Megan, I know the two of you enjoy the privilege
of sitting together and I would like to see this continue but
if this type of inappropriate behavior doesn’t stop, I will
have to reassign your seating.”
