We met with John Gates. I think we have a good list of concerns that deal with the FCPS custodians. Ed Ballew [email protected] Did you know…..? 2002 Enactment of legislation to expand the scope of bargaining for Education Support Professionals (ESP) and provide due process for ESPs on the Eastern Shore. 1978 Enactment of the first ESP collective bargaining law. 2010 30-year struggle ends with passage of a new collective bargaining law that gives employees a level playing field at the negotiating table. Meet the New IA on the Board of Directors I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mitzi Smith, the Science Lab Assistant at Walkersville High School. I was an elementary and middle school teacher in Washington and Frederick Counties for 30 years when I retired in 2000. Two weeks later I found myself in high school again after 45 years!! This is my 14th year doing a job I love, since Science is my thing! I have been a FASSE representative for most of my time at WHS. I believe in this association and helping other ESP’s in my building with issues as they arise. I live in Woodsboro with my husband, Gary, who by the way is its Burgess. I guess that makes me the “First Lady!” I look forward to an exciting year helping with negotiating our new contract and everything that entails. I can be reached at [email protected] or 240-236-7274. All Members MSEA is gearing up for the 2014 Election in a very big way and we need your help. In Frederick County we have a great opportunity to elect public officials that will support our work and our schools. As you know, the current majority of County Commissioners are no friend of public education and some members of the School Board have publically stated that we should privatize many critical positions that are currently held by talented, benefited individuals. We cannot allow this mentality to prevail. We need every member to commit to vote and commit to getting involves in our campaign to elect pro-public education candidates. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” We know it has been a long cold winter. Spring is almost here. Patti and I hope to hold a round-table meeting in the near future and would like to hear from you. Please send us an email if you are interested. Happy Spring!!!!!!
