GLOBAL YOUTH
SPORTS EXPECTATIONS
1. ACADEMIC
A. Must have a 2.5 gpa, a completed athletic packet, and a physical in order to
tryout. The last quarter grade before tryouts will determine academic
standing.
B. Once final rosters are made, ALL athletes MUST maintain at least a 2.0 gpa
throughout the season. GRADES WILL BE CHECKED EVERY
MONDAY AT 3PM. If a student-athlete is under a 2.0 gpa and/or has one ‘f”
grade in any class, he/she MUST sit out one full week (until the next Monday
grade check). He/She MUST still participate in practices and attend home games
(street clothes) but cannot attend away games while under a 2.0 gpa.
C. It is the athlete’s responsibility to talk with their teacher if there are any
grade discrepancies. THE OFFICE WILL NOT HANDLE HAVING TO
TALK WITH TEACHERS ABOUT ELIGIBILITY. It is highly
recommended that the athlete speak with the teacher before the end of the day
Monday if he/she has some concerns.
2. PARENT EXPECTATIONS
A. Responsible for getting son/daughter to and from practices and games. GYCS
will not be responsible for arranging rides, carpooling, or collecting
gas money.
B. Attend Pre-Season Parent Meeting (for each sport your child is playing)
C. Volunteer time at Home Games/Events: ALL PARENTS that have a studentathlete participating on any one of our teams MUST put in volunteer time during the
season. A sign-up sheet will be provided by the Head Coach at the Mandatory Parent
Meeting prior to playing any contests. At the Parent Meeting the Head Coach will
provide dates and times of contests/events. Each parent MUST work at least 3
events: Game duties, fundraising, tournaments are possible events. If needed,
training will be provided.
D. One parent from each team will be a PTC Rep that will need to attend Monthly
PTC meetings (does not have to be team mom/dad). PTC meetings will be lead by
Mr. Schneider, GYCS English teacher. Being that the PTC Rep will attend monthly
meetings, NO VOLUNTEER DUTIES WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE PTC REP.
ATTENDANCE AND BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
1. All student-athletes MUST attend at least 4 classes in order to participate in
a game scheduled that day. Attending less than 4 periods of class on a game day will
result in sitting out ALL games that day.
2. Missing school after a road (or home) game will not be tolerated. If you are
healthy enough to participate in a game, you are healthy enough to attend school.
CONSEQUENCES: Miss next game. Injuries and illness will excuse
the athlete from any consequence.
3. Being a student-athlete DOES NOT give you the right to be treated differently
from those who do not participate in athletics. Poor behavior on and off the court may
result in missing games, extra running in practice, or being dismissed from the team.
4. Missing Practice
