present your work in class. The presentation should, at minimum, explain the following:
1) How, where, and when the dance developed
2) Who helped develop the form originally? Who are the people that danced this form?
3) How has it evolved in relation to changes in society and culture? For instance, discuss
how the dance either reflected tends in society or rebelled against them. Was it taboo or
accepted? Did this dance influence a change in culture or did it emulate the trends, morals,
and thoughts of society in their time?
4) How this social form is seen in the present day? Is the form still practiced as it was
originally? Have elements of the form morphed into a different dance style or fad dance? Is
the form still popular or widely practiced and if so, where?
All group members should be able to summarize important information about their social
dance form. You will be required to use (4) separate outside resources for your research and
provide a printed bibliography of your sources. Groups will also need to turn in a printed
copy of their Powerpoint and/or notes in class. Groups are encouraged to be creative and
interactive with the class! You may want to wear or show clothing that was fashionable at
the time and use slang phrases or lingo from the time period. You may use videos, photos,
PowerPoint, music or any other tools integrated into presentation.

Presentation Guidelines and Grading:
Presentations will be 15-20 minutes in length. The project is worth 15% towards your final
grade. Score will be based on a 100-point scale. Each member of the group will be graded
separately in the areas of content knowledge and presentation length. The group will be
given the same grade for the areas of organization, research, and creativity. This grading
style will ensure that the group works cooperatively to create a cohesive project while also
earning individual credit for the content they learn and present. Please refer to the Grading
Rubric for the Group Assignment for a more detailed breakdown of grading.
Individuals will be accountable for:
1. Illustrating their understanding of the important dates, facts, characteristics,
practice and overall content knowledge of the social dance form in their portion of
the presentation.
2. Clearly presenting one segment of discussion/ teaching presentation in class. 3-5
minutes per student. Presentation must be clear, audible for students to hear, well
organized, and concise.
3. Turning in a self/peer evaluation form to discuss, reflect upon, and grade the work of
all group members.
The Group will be accountable for:
1. Coordinating and integrating all components of research (4 resources) into a
cohesive class presentation.
