olution #3: Prayer - You Have to Release It
When you focus on your grievances, it is hard to appreciate anyone or anything. The older brother begrudged the Prodigal’s homecoming party and his
place in the family. Why? Because he focused on his injury, sense of injustice, and
the inconvenience his brother caused him. He assumed the worst about his brother
rather than the best. The more you assume motives, the deeper your resentment
goes, but you do it to yourself. Rather than believing the best, you choose to doubt
the other’s sincerity and disregard his efforts to make things right. The older brother
would not budge. He was unwilling to make the slightest effort to welcome or comfort his sorrowful sibling. He did not want restoration, he did not frame it like his
father, and he refused to release his animosity.
When the father saw his son returning, his response was just the opposite. He did
not withdraw or coolly wait for him to approach and grovel. He ran to him, and get
this, he met him more than halfway. Why, because his heart was full of joy rather
than resentment. Consequently, the future would be brighter sooner. Hebrews says,
“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles” (12.1b). Why? So we can “run” (Isaiah 40.31). The father chose to lay aside his
wounded pride for the sake of his family. He chose love and was willing to throw off
the thoughts and emotions that would have hindered healing his home. Jesus was
commending the Father’s attitude and discouraging the Older Brother’s outlook. The
choice is a clear one to see but a difficult one to live, but the best outcome in the
long run is almost always the more difficult one. Let it go. 
The best outcome in the long run is almost always
the more difficult one.

A
s we begin our search and make contact with ministers for a
fulltime minister, we have dissected, reviewed and discussed
all of our “wish list” items from every class and from individuals. We have been praying, asking for help from our Lord for guidance,
wisdom and direction. We have been looking at God’s word, searching
for His will for us moving forward. We have been talking back and forth
as your shepherds discussing what we think the greatest needs are for
you as Christ’s bride, His church.
One of the consistent reminders we discuss, is our day of judgement with Christ himself. All four of us understand that
on the day of judgement we will have to give an answer for how we took care of His Church. We don’t want to present
Christ with a bride that has a torn and dirty gown that has not been cared for. We do not want carry blame for lack of
diligence or neglect in our service to Him. Therefore, we search scripture to know what God’s will is for all. We will
take what we learn from scripture and seek out one who has a passion for truth with the characteristics that best
match our needs and desires for growing spiritually and outwardly in the community.
We will emphasize local outreach passion, as well as meeting the needs our body. We have just begun reaching out to
candidates that have shown interest or names that have been given to us to talk with them and meet them. As we
move forward we will keep you posted. 

appy Pumpkin Spice Season! As the days get shorter, the mornings get cooler and the leaves begin to fall,
we are compelled to add “pumpkin spice” to everything, lattes, pancakes, cookies, the list goes on and on.
It begs the question, is pumpkin spice as tasty in April? Similarly, I’ve always wondered if you can eat turkey
and dressing in July? Either way, fall is a special time of year. A respite from the heat of summer; a return of a familiar
routine; a natural period of change and transition.

WE SUPPORT
I am reminded of Genesis 8:22, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter,
day and night, shall not cease.” Seasons, and the change of seasons, are a constant. We can rely on them, plan around
them and look forward to them. It’s a reminder of the power and wonder of our God and his creation and how small
we really are. What a comforting thought that the God of all creation, still remembers us, hears our prayers, and is
preparing an even more wonderful dwelling place for us.
So sit back and enjoy your pumpkin spice treat. Enjoy watching the leaves turn and fall. Enjoy the mums and gourds.
Enjoy the activities, football, hayrides, festivals, etc. Take it all in. As you do remember to thank God for seasons, reminders that he is our God and what an amazing God he is! 
