Method of election & terms of office of
the Conference Arrangements Committee

The Conference Arrangements Committee (CAC) is made up of four elected
representatives plus one appointed by the National Executive Committee.
The electoral areas from which organisations are entitled to nominate are:

Wales
West Midlands

Organisations from all electoral areas are entitled to nominate except those which have a
sitting member of the CAC whose term of office is not expiring.

All persons nominated must be individual members of the Co-operative Party and must be a
delegate to Conference.

Depending on the programme of business, the Chair will introduce each nominee present to
the Friday afternoon session of Conference.

Nominations submitted from the eligible electoral areas must reach Head Office by a date
fixed by the existing Conference Arrangements Committee. Brief notes on each nominee
will be despatched to organisations with the Final Agenda.

Nominees will be grouped on the ballot paper according to their electoral areas. When the
ballot is held, organisations must vote for not more than one person from each electoral
area, up to a maximum of the number of vacancies (two plus any casual vacancies).

Ballot papers will be posted to authorised delegates or officials not less than one week
before Conference. The ballot will take place at Conference.

The person receiving the highest number of votes will serve on the Conference
Arrangements Committee for three years. The person in any of the remaining electoral
areas receiving the next highest number of votes will serve for the next longest term and so
on until all vacancies are filled. The final person elected will serve for one year.

All elected members of the Conference Arrangements Committee shall, on retirement from
the Committee, be eligible for re-election.
