Login to Blackboard on the Development System Log into our DEV system at https://fsulearndev.ferris.edu/ with your MyFSU username and password. You should have courses there. If you have trouble with your courses there or if you need a course, please contact Mary Holmes, Terri Aldrich, or Scott Randle. Please Note: You must have the ‘s’ in https:// to access our development system. Connect to Kaltura Lecture Capture Before you connect your Blackboard course to Kaltura, you need to add the “My Media” module to your Blackboard Main Page. In other words, do not go into a Blackboard course. You will need to be on the My Blackboard tab. 1. 2. 3. 4. Click on “Add Module” from the top menu. Find “My Media” (hint: it is on Page 2) Click on “Add.” Scroll down and click on “OK.” The “My Media” module will be at the bottom of the list. You can move it up if you want to. Record Lecture There are a couple of ways to record a lecture in Kaltura. Record a Lecture from My Media Find the “My Media” module that you just created above. In the “My Blackboard” tab, click on they “My Media” link in the “My Media” module. Click on “Add New” to expand the menu. Select one of the choices: 1. Media Upload – upload an mp4 video. 2. Webcam Recording – to record yourself. 3. Record a Presentation – to record presentation and lectures; screen capture; screen capture and webcam video; or voice with screen capture. The first time you do select “Webcam Recording” or “Record a Presentation,” it will want to install the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder for Windows or for a Mac. Click the Download link for the system you are on. Download or save and run the file. When it is finished installing, go back to “My Media,” click the “Add New” button and select “Record a Presentation.” Now that the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder is installed, the first time you go in, you will have to associate Kaltura with the Desktop recorder simply by clicking “OK,” telling it to always remember to use the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder. Once in the Desktop Recorder, you have many options. 1. Presentations & Lectures: This option allows you to upload your PowerPoint presentation so that when you start your recording, it brings it up automatically and with precision. It has a high quality video of you, it has sound, and it has your presentation on the screen. 2. Screen: This records your voice and the screen capture. 3. Screen and Webcam: This records a video of you and the screen capture 4. Webcam: This records only a video of you. 5. Voice: This only records your voice. While all of those options work similarly, I will select “Presentations & Lectures” for these instructions. As you can see in the screen shot below, I can browse the computer for a Power Point presentation in addition to choosing options for the camera and sound. We cannot do both presentation mode and screen capture mode. It is one or the other. When ready, simply press the record button at the bottom. When you are finished recording your lecture, click on the “Done” icon in the Kaltura Desktop Recorder. Record a Lecture from within a Course If you have already installed the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder from the My Media module, this should work for you. In Blackboard, go into a course and then go into a content area. In the screenshot below, I am in the Week 4 content area. Click the “Build Content” button and select “Kaltura Media.” You can select a video that was previously recorded in “My Media,” Of you can expand the “Add New” button to upload a video (Media Upload), record video only (Webcam Recording), or you can do a lecture capture (Record a Presentation) as you will see in the following instructions. The Desktop Recorder will come up. While all of those options work similarly, I will select “Screen & Webcam” for these instructions. The first option I get is to select the part of the screen I want to capture. By default, it is set to Full Screen. In the screen shot below, you can see that it is only recording my Blackboard browser window and not my entire screen. I had to move my video into the selected area of the screen recording in order to include it. Also, in the screenshot below, you see a demonstration of using the screen markup capabilities. When the recording is complete, click the “Done” button. You have the option to trim off the front or the end of the video. You can chop a section out of the middle. You can add titles from their template options. You can add footers (credits) from their template options. Once you have made your selections, click the “Apply” button to set them and click the “Done” button to save. The video will not be embedded into the class yet. It will be in the media library. Click the “Build Content” button in the content area and select “Kaltura Media” again as you have done previously. This time, select the video from the list that you have just recorded.
