Why to optimize current model
•
Currently MIH_LINK_SAP has almost the same primitives as the MIH_SAP, which implies
that the MIH layer only simply transfer these primitives from Link Layer to MIH user and the
mapping work between the MIH_LINK_SAP and the media specific SAPs is done by the Link
Layer, e.g., in Annex A-2, the mapping of 3GPP primitives to the 802.21 service primitives
should be done by the 3GPP Layer (RR, LLC etc.), this may not be what was expected, indeed
this mapping work should be done by MIH.
•
In the current model, the mapping relationship is: media specific SAPs- <->MIH_LINK_SAP
<->MIH_SAP. The mapping between MIH_LINK_SAP and MIH_SAP is superfluous.

•
In this proposed optimized MIH general model, 802.3_SAP etc. are abstract representations,
they are corresponding to the following specific SAPs:
802.3_SAP: L_SAP
802.11_SAP:L_SAP,MLME_SAP
802.16_SAP:CS_SAP,C_MAP,M_SAP
3GPP_SAP:MIH_3G_LINK_SAP
3GPP2_SAP:MIH_3G2_LINK_SAP
•
The MIH_LINK_SAP primitives are replaced by media dependent primitives, such as
primitives of MIH_3G_LINK_SAP, M_SAP,C_SAP etc.
•
The mapping of media specific primitives to MIH_SAP primitives is done by the MIH Function
(MIH-ES, MIH_CS, MIH_IS).
•
The MIH_LINK_SAP primitives disappear, thus the media dependent SAPs should add these
common primitives (as their corresponding MIH_SAP primitives can not be mapped from
existing media dependent SAPs): Link Event Discover, Link Event Register, Link Event
DeRegister, Link Configure Thresholds, Link Get Information. These primitives can be kept
somewhere separated from every media specific SAPs’ primitives. So we can replace 7.2.2.2 as
the following:

•
7.2.2.2 Common_Link_SAP
•
These primitives apply to every media dependent SAPs, that is to say apply to 802.3_SAP,
802.11_SAP, 802.16_SAP,3GPP_SAP and 3GPP2_SAP:
