Mounting Options for Smart Lights
Flexible options for direct, pole, and wall mounting
Pole Mounting the Smart Light
Probably the most popular mounting option for stack lights is pole
mounting, which allows the visual indication of the machine status
to be above the equipment and clearly visible to the surrounding
area. By utilizing modular sensor mounting accessories, the Smart
Light can be mounted in a variety of ways. The kit shown above
includes a mounting foot, aluminum pole, knuckle, and M18
mounting bracket. This pole-mounting strategy enables the Smart
Light to be mounted on virtually any pole length from 1 meter
down to a few centimeters. In addition, the foot can be mounted
horizontally or vertically allowing, for a combination of pole and wall
mounting with just one kit.

Wall Mounting the Smart Light
With the IP67, M12 connector on the Smart Light, there is no
longer the need to protect and encapsulate the connection cable
of the stack light installation. With a few simple screws, the Smart
Light can be mounted to virtually any vertical surface and then
the connection cable can run just like any other sensor cable.
Integrated bracketry can be frustrating to specify and assemble on
typical stack lights, but since the Smart Light uses a standard M18
threaded body for mounting, a wide variety of sensor brackets can
be used to mount the Smart Light in a wall-mount position.

Direct Mounting the Smart Light
A popular installation for stack lights is where the light is directly
mounted to the controls cabinet or a breakout box. A few outputs
from an I/O slice are required to drive the indicators and these I/O
are usually IP20 and mounted in the control box. While the Balluff
Smart Light does not require I/O slice outputs to operate and has
an IP67 connector already integrated into it, many specifications
and designs require the stack light to easily direct mount onto the
controls cabinet. Direct mount installation is simple with the Smart
Light, which requires one hole to fit its M18 threaded body. When
used with the provided gasket the Smart Light is then IP67.
