ENVIRONMENTAL / GREEN HOUSEKEEPING POLICY
Central beds Children & Youth Project
MISSION STATEMENT
The Central Beds Children & Youth facility (Gravenhurst and Villages
Preschool and Out of School Club) is committed to raise the “Green
Awareness” for all children, parents, volunteers and staff.
AIMS
1. Teach the children/youth about food and food sources
2. Recycle
3. Save water and energy (= save money)
ACTIVITIES TO ACHIEVE THE AIMS
1. To grow vegetables and fruits from own garden to educate the children
where it comes from.
2. Sort rubbish and recycle what you can, especially paper, glass, cans and
computer toner cartridges. Don’t use disposable cups and plates when
alternatives are available.
Maintain respect for natural resources by ensuring the most efficient use of
materials and by using renewable, recycled and recyclable products
wherever possible.
3. Collect rainwater in a butt to water the garden. Install low-flush toilets. Turn
taps off fully when not in use and have dripping taps repaired immediately.
Don’t leave lights on unnecessarily. Switch off TV’s and computers – do
not leave them on stand-by. Use energy efficient light bulbs.

 Appoint a volunteer to monitor and co-ordinate the environmental
performance
 Communicate the environmental policy and provide appropriate training
to ensure its effective implementation where necessary
 Conduct periodic environmental reviews and self-evaluation of its
compliance with the environmental policy
 Prepare, implement and monitor action plans to improve performance
and report findings to the Board
With regard to the purchase of goods and services the setting shall:
 Support and encourage contractors, suppliers and other relevant partners
to minimise their impact on the environment through the communication of
the organisation’s environmental policy and strategic purchasing and
contract policies.

Actively seek to influence others within its sphere of influence and
operation to adopt environmental policies and good environmental
management.

Use and specify the use of used, reclaimed or recycled materials wherever
appropriate and possible.

Actively seek the purchase of materials locally and the appointment of
local contractors whenever such materials and skills exist locally.
As a charity with expending public funds, it is required to secure good value
for money at all times. Purchasing decisions will take account of both
environmental and v-f-m factors.
Each employee / volunteer of the organisation will:

Encourage other employees / volunteers of the organisation to adopt and
take responsibility for the implementation of the environmental policy.

Encourage employees, volunteers and members of other organisations to
adopt good practices so as to improve the environmental performance of
their organisation and improve its impact upon the environment.
Environmental / Green Housekeeping policy adopted at the Committee
Meeting in September 2007.
