REPRESENTATIVE TEAM PLAYER CODE OF BEHAVIOUR and

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM PLAYER CODE OF BEHAVIOUR and ETHICS
As a SDNA representative team player it is essential that you adhere to the requirements in regard
to your conduct during any activity held by or under the auspices of SDNA or another Association,
and abide by this Code of Behaviour and Ethics at all times.
SDNA regards any breach of this Code of Behaviour as a serious matter and may take disciplinary
action against a player in breach.
YOU MUST:
Be committed to being the best you can be, by:
 Attending all training sessions for the designated period. If you are not able to make a session
you need to contact the coach and/or team manager immediately, this may mean starting on
the bench for the next game dependent on circumstances. Repeated failures to attend training
sessions may result in players being dropped for a game/s
 Attending all weekly matches, including, if successful, the final series, bearing in mind that
games may also be played throughout school holidays
 Attending all tournaments
 Ensuring you understand your coaches philosophy and what will be expected of you during the
season
 Working with your coach to establish your goals and how they will be measured for the season
 Developing teams goals and working cohesively towards reaching those goals;
 Bringing the right attitude to training and game day is one of the most important elements for
immediate and long term success
 Training and playing with intensity – come prepared to work hard, particularly on drills and/or
skills that are not your strengths and
 Leaving all personal items and possible distractions in your kit bag for the length of training i.e.
(no phones or other devices to be on court during any training sessions).
Striving for excellence by:
 Showing spirit, the will to win, the will to excel – these are the things that endure and these are
the qualities that are so much more important than any of the events themselves.
Developing good habits by:
 Understanding “winning” is a habit. Watch your thoughts, they become your beliefs. Watch
your beliefs they become your words. Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch
your actions, they become your habits. Watch your habits, they become your character;
 Knowing that winning is not everything, but making the effort to win is;
 Appreciating that the harder you work, the harder it is to surrender and
 Acknowledging that belief is contagious and so is a lack of belief and an opponent is likely to
recognise both.
Understanding the importance and value of teamwork by:
 Always giving individual commitment to a group effort as that is what makes a team work;
 Recognising the achievements of a team are the results of the combined effort of each
individual; and
 Modelling supportive behaviour and only using encouraging language to your teammates.

Cultivating positive personal & behavioural attributes by:
 Displaying humility in victory and graciousness in defeat every time you take the court;
 Creating a good first impression – ensuring people feel good after meeting you, i.e. treat people
the way you want to be treated;
 Being of sound character – What you think? What you do? What’s important to you – these 3
things determine the choices you make and the choices you make are who you are.
Hardworking/lazy, responsible/irresponsible, thoughtful/thoughtless etc.;
 Having good character means you have to have discipline – Doing what you are supposed to
do; the way you are supposed to do it; when you are supposed to do it. The right thing, the
right way, the right time, all the time.
 Understanding we all possess discipline – everyone has it but you have to choose to use it. In
order to be good at what you do YOU MUST HAVE DISCIPLINE AND CHARACTER. If you do
not have discipline you are always going to be disappointed because you will never do as well
as what you could have.
Be professional in your presentation, punctuality and be responsible for your
actions:
 Training kit to be worn to all sessions and your full uniform/accessories to be worn to and from
all games and tournaments;
 Language, manner, preparation and presentation should be of the highest standards;
 Display control, respect, dignity and professionalism to all involved on and off the court – this
includes opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, parents and spectators; and
 Control your temper - emotional outbursts or displays of bad temper, verbal abuse of officials or
other players and foul play will not be tolerated under any circumstances during games or
training and may result in removal from the court. Should this occur, disciplinary action will be
taken and players will be issued with a warning letter in the first instance, if repeat offences
occur, the player/s will be disciplined and may miss a game/s dependent on the seriousness of
the offence.
Should you sustain an injury, depending on severity, we may require:
 A medical certificate or notation from a specialist clearing you to play; and
 Your Club team/coach needs to be informed of your injury and the management for same so
there is transparent communication regarding all players and their ability/inability to train and
play for both club and representative teams.
Please read carefully, sign and return the next page to your coach. All players will be
required to sign the Code of Behaviour and Ethics before the season commences.
