"Acquiring and retiring open spaces like this whenever we have the opportunity goes to the core of Malibu's mission statement - preserving what makes Malibu so beautiful and unique, and is something we will continue to pursue as a matter of policy," Mayor Lou La Monte said. "Now we have to make sure we get as much community input as possible and develop a comprehensive plan so that this property will serve residents in the community for generations to come." The outreach efforts include a community questionnaire, public meetings, stakeholder focus group meetings, social media and website messaging, newspaper advertisements, flyers, posters, and a dedicated web page at www.MalibuCity.org/TrancasField where meeting dates and other project information will be posted. The first public meeting is a Teen & Youth Workshop with the Harry Barovsky Youth Commission taking place on Monday, October 17, 7:00 PM at Malibu City Hall. Community Workshops for all members of the public are also scheduled for Wednesday, November 2, 6:30 PM at Malibu West Beach Club (30756 Pacific Coast Highway), and Wednesday, November 30, 6:30 PM at Malibu City Hall. Residents can take the online questionnaire at www.MalibuCity.org/TrancasField October 12 through December 12. On August 8, 2016, the City Council approved the purchase of 35 acres of open space at Trancas Canyon Road and PCH, marking the fulfillment of the City’s goal for more than 25 years of acquiring the land and protecting it from high-density development. ### 2 Recycled Paper
