This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom they are responsible. When your child first starts at Pre-School their key person will help them settle in and throughout their time at Pre-School will communicate with you directly. The key people write and update records of development for each child that they are responsible for and formulate individual developmental plans. This helps us to document their successes and to outline their very personal needs; providing an appropriately stimulating environment in order to enable your child to constantly be moving forwards and making progress. Parents will be encouraged to contribute to this record and the key person will collect information from you about your child’s needs, favourite activities, interests and achievements. This framework has a play based approach towards individualised care, learning and development. All Early Years childcare providers use the EYFS and pledge to work in partnership with each other and parents to ensure quality all round provision. Through sensitive and careful observations your child’s key worker will be able to plan and provide quality learning and development opportunities, through play, specific to your child. Throughout the Pre-School we aim to offer activities and experiences which: 1. Build on and develop all areas of each child’s learning and development. 2. Allow each child to learn and have fun through both free and led play. 3. Allow each child to build their knowledge, confidence and sense of curiosity through both free and led exploration and experiences. 4. Allow each child to learn about and respect both their indoor and outdoor environments. 5. Provide and promote a sense of achievement and well being, allowing each child to take pride in their own achievements. 6. Provide and promote the sharing of information about each child’s progress with their families and/or carers. 7. Provide and promote positive attitudes for the children themselves and for others: including people who are different from themselves. 8. Provide and promote a strong sense of safety and security. 9. Offer equal opportunities to all, regardless of their gender, their physical and/or mental ability and their racial, social, or cultural backgrounds. 3 Breaking Down the Early Years Foundation Stage The 4 Themes of the Early Years Foundation Stage A Unique Child Positive Relationships Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and Children learn to be strong and independent through can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. positive relationships. As parents, you know and understand your child more than anyone else and we believe that our provision can only be improved with your input. We hope that we will be able to form strong relationships with you built on trust and respect so that we can work together to give your child the best possible experiences. Kiln Hill Pre-School aims to: Provide high quality care and education for children primarily below statutory school age; Work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and to develop; Add to the life and well-being of its local community; Offer the children and their parents a service which promotes equality, and values diversity. Parents: All parents are regarded as members who have full participatory rights. These include a right to be: valued and respected; involved; kept informed; included at all levels; consulted; We respect parents as their child’s first and most important carers and educators: We engage in an ongoing dialogue with parents to improve our knowledge of the needs of their child; We provide written information to parents to update and to inform them and ensure that they understand this; We try to take part in community activities where possible; We hope that parents will build friendships with others in the setting; We provide opportunities for parents to contribute their own skills, knowledge and interests to the activities of the group; We aim to hold meetings at times and in venues which are accessible for all; We inform all parents of the systems for registering queries, complaints or suggestions; We encourage all parents to be part of the management of the setting; We seek the opinion of parents about change and provision for support through questionnaires and through conversation. We also depend on the good will of parents and their involvement to keep improving, learning and growing. Membership of the setting therefore carries expectations on parents for their support and commitment. 5 Your Child’s Experience Kiln Hill Pre-School timetables and routines: Our setting believes that care and education are equally important in the experiences which we offer your children. The routines and activities that make up the session are provided in order to help the children feel safe and secure, feel that they are part of a social group and provide a stimulating learning environment. A typical morning session usually follows this routine: 8.45 – 9.00: 9.00 - 9.20: 9.20 – 11.20: 11.20 – 11.30: 11.30 – 11.45: 11.45: Children arrive, opportunity to talk to parents. Afternoon sessions are also 3 hours long and follow a similar timetable. Outdoor activities contribute to children's health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. The children have the opportunity, and are encouraged, to take part in outdoor child- chosen and adult-led activities every day. Snacks: Our Pre-School makes snack time a social time in which small groups of children can eat together. Your child will receive healthy and nutritious food each day for their snack and will have either milk or water to drink. Special dietary needs should be identified when your child joins us and we will do our best to meet these needs. In order to provide these snacks we ask for a small donation. As part of Kiln Hill Pre-School your child will be: in a safe and stimulating environment; given generous care and attention due to the high ratio of adults to children; given the chance to interact with other children and adults, playing, working and learning together; helped to take forward their learning and development; with a personal key worker and a member of a specific group; supported to make appropriate progress with the help of their key worker, other staff, parents and peers; in a learning environment which sees parents as partners in helping your child learn and develop. 6 Our Pre-School Poem Say hello and feel welcome, greeted with a smile.
