Honors Biology I Summer Assignment

Honors Biology I Summer Assignment
Welcome to Honors Biology I
Your summer assignment is due the first day of class. It will be worth 30 points. Please make
sure you read all directions very carefully and complete assignments thoroughly. I have high
expectations for honors students, so l hope you are up to the challenge.
Before beginning this assignment you will need a composition book. The composition book
must be bound and not a spiral notebook. You will use this composition book the entire year.
You will be placing all assignments in your composition book. I will collect this book periodically
to grade assignments.
This entire summer assignment will focus on macromolecules. Please click on the link found
below and read pages 44-48 from the chapter "The Chemistry of Life". Make sure you are
reading to understand and learn the concepts presented to you in the chapter. I will collect
your composition book the first day of class. One of your goals for this class is always to use
complete sentences when answering questions. Please keep this in mind when completing your
summer assignment. You will not earn full credit for assignments if you choose to use
incomplete sentences and thoughts.

After reading the pages from "The Chemistry of Life" chapter, complete the "Elements &
Macromolecules in Organisms" worksheet. You will need to print this. In your composition book,
label a page with the title of this worksheet and answer the questions 1-30 in your composition
book. You must copy each question into your composition book and then answer it. You will also
have to color the molecules on the printed page as the directions indicate.
Next, print out the "Macromolecule Worksheet" and complete it on the page itself.
Now that you've learned about the four classes of macromolecules, you are going to learn
specifically about a nucleic acid referred to as DNA.
Read pages 291-299 located in the same place as the other reading you completed.
Finally, print out the "DNA Structure and Replication" worksheet and complete the tasks on the
worksheet itself.
Warning! ! !
If you do not have this entire summer assignment complete by the first day of class you will be
removed from honors biology I and placed in a physical science class. No excuses! Mrs.Curlis
has high expectations of honors students. Please be accountable and live up to your
responsibilities!
Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you in August.
Sincerely,
