CURRICULUM
SCIENTIFICO/SCIENTIFIC CURRICULUM
Prof. Xiloyannis was born in Greece, where he completed high school; he obtained a degree in Agricultural Science at
the University of Pisa in 1972. Then he get the Postgraduate Degree at Sant’Anna School of Pisa (1974).
Since 1990 he is Full Professor at the University of Basilicata.
He carried out institutional roles at the University of Basilicata as Rector’s Delegate, Head of Department and
Coordinator of the PhD. He was also a member of the Academic Senate and is currently member of the Board of
Directors at the same University.
His research has covered aspects of water relations, plant physiology, mineral nutrition and recovery of soil fertility,
with more than 260 publications in national and international journals (h index =11).
Recently, he studied the mechanisms of transport and accumulation of mineral elements in fruit tree species
including Actinidia. This research has highlighted some of the internal (e.g. hydraulic resistance, morphological
structure of the epidermis) and external factors (e.g. vapour pressure deficit, availability of solar radiation, wind) of
the fruit, laying the foundation for future research aimed at developing new or renewed cultivation techniques.
During his career Prof. Xiloyannis was coordinator of several European, National and local projects for a total of over
5 M€.
In particular, since 2001 he was national coordinator of 4 PRIN projects developed on the issue of the quality of
Actinidia.
