Seattle Education Grants brought in $11,000 for next year.
Legislative Report
State Legislate is in special session with the main focus education funding.
Currently little progress is being made, an additional special session is expected.
PTA Report
Focus on making the PTA an inclusive community open to all. Financially we get
a tremendous amount of support from the Annual Giving Campaign, Auction, and
walk-a-move-a-jog-a-thon (WMJ). Looking for Auction and WMJ chairs, among
other positions. School survey is being written to find out how the PTA is doing
to support every student in our school; possible questions to be submitted to PTA
co-presidents. Thanks and appreciation to all school volunteers.
Mini grants: Ms. Butler requested $416 for classroom accommodations. Grant
approved.
Awards for Acorn, Advocate, Educator
Outstanding Educator: Ms. Coutts
Outstanding Advocate: Ms. Hostetler
Golden Acorn: Tara Nessan & Mary Balmaceda
Nominations for 2017-2018 PTA Board
WSPTA Uniform Bylaws Article 5, Section 6 was read by Secretary Tara Nessan.
All candidates meet the requirements of the WSPTA Uniform Bylaws:
Co-presidents: Phillipa Dugaw & Kerry Schultz
Vice-president: Mary Balmaceda
Secretary: Suzanne Hurley
Treasurer: Megan Stewart
The signed report was handed to President Phillipa Dugaw. President Dugaw reread the proposed slate of officers. President Dugaw asked for nominations from
the floor for co-presidents, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. There were
no additional nominations and the president declared the nominations closed.
The nominees were declared elected in accordance with WSPTA Bylaws Article
5 Section 6B.
Financial Report and Vote on 2017-2018 Budget
Budget committee met two times previously this spring. Overall operating budget
is higher than previous years, and expenditures were less for this year, with
approximately $20,000 that will roll over.
Question from the floor: Scrip is lower due to not acquiring new cards for this
year. Program is being phased out.
Question from the floor: Increase in budgets reflects higher student population
next year.
Question from the floor: Provide water for additional portable.
Question from the floor: The district provides classroom furniture.
Question from the floor: PD funds used for consultants, professional
observations, and teacher materials.
Question from the floor: Directory will be online.
Question from the floor: Art curriculum has been the same for several years and
is only half of the school year. Is a scheduling concern more than a budgetary
concern. Increased funding to help support a more robust art curriculum.
Question: Second Step, etc. is required by the district but could possibly be done
by the classroom teacher. Suggestion to hire a part-time certificated art teacher
to make of for required planning time.
Question: P6 needs a bulletin board. Will use this years building funds for
additional bulletin boards.
Question: Fund an education consultant to support teacher’s work with highly
capable students.
Motion to approve the proposed 2017-2018. Approved.
Call to adjourn 8:06pm.
