COMMANDER’S CORNER
Greetings,
First, I would like to Thank All who helped with
cleaning the siding on east end of the Legion – looks
good. The new doors have been installed on the Lobby
& West Entrance. The video cameras are installed at
all entrances now. The new LED lights are ordered –
waiting to hear back From Dean Schrage when they will
be in.
Aviston Park is celebrating 50 Years and they asked
if the Legion could host a car show & cruise for them on
June 17. The car show would start at 3:00pm with a
cruise thru the park at 6:30. Attendance prizes will be
drawn also every ½ hour. The Legion car cruise went
well on the first Friday of May. We had 18 cars show
up, expecting more in June.
The VVA is looking for help guarding the Vietnam
Moving Wall at the Carlyle Lake Celebration on June 8
thru 11. If interested, please contact Dennis Woltering
for times.
Steve Haar has mentioned as of May 22 he would
no longer be ordering for the Fish Fry and cleaning the
fryers. He will be stepping down for personal reasons.
He did mention he would help with anyone interested in
taking over this job. Anyone interested in this job
please contact Steve.
Election of Officers for the upcoming year was held
and no changes were made as of yet. You have until
next month’s meeting to decide if you would like to run
for any one of these positions! Most of these members
stated this would be their last year at these positions. It
is time for a change!
The oil & chip parking lot was discussed as there
are some areas breaking up. Prices will be checked
into and will check with the Village when they will oil the
streets.
Queen of Hearts is going well; we will be needing
more help from all organizations as we will start having
food & doing 50/50 drawings.
I would like to congratulate the students from
Aviston & St. Rose Elementary Schools who won the
Legion Awards.
Continued on back….

AUXILIARY NEWS
The Mondt-Lampe Auxiliary meeting was held on
Tues, May 16, with President Marci Markus presiding.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to member Arlene
Peek, who recently lost her daughter Sandy. No words
can express our deepest sympathy.
Thanks to all who donated to the Poppy Fund. Our
dedication to support the veterans is never ending.
And, thanks to the committee for keeping it so well
organized.
Ann Puhl reported (with a sigh of relief) that
membership is 100% paid. You go, girl…..!!
We now have Nachos Supreme and Sloppy Joes at
the Queen of Hearts drawing. So, if you’re coming to
the drawing, bring your appetite, too. Oh, and good
luck to all!!
Thanks to Dennis Woltering and Gary Peek for
putting up the new sconces in the dance hall. Dean
Schrage has been notified to make sure the current
switch can handle the larger sconces. Thanks, boys!
The SAL’s Tractor, Jeep, Horse and Buggy, etc.
Run will be held on Sun, Jun 11. Dale Rakers will
have his wagon available. Anyone wishing to join him
and Karen, please call 830-9349.
Several people have inquired about getting new
Auxiliary shirts. The best way is to order them online
at http://emblem.legion.org. If you have trouble, please
check at the meeting and someone can order one for
you.
Congratulations to all the graduates. Remember,
“Make Good Choices”.
School is out. Watch out for our most precious
accomplishments…our kids and g-kids.
**The most memorable people in your life will be the
friends who loved you even when you weren’t very
lovable.
**Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with
the intent of throwing it at someone else. YOU are the
one who gets burned.
**I think my house is haunted. Every time I stand in
front of the mirror, a crazy old woman stands in front of
me and I can’t see my reflection.
Next meeting will be Tues, Jun 20, 7:00pm.
