April 2017 Romsley St Kenelm’s Scout Group Parents Open Night Friday 5th May 7.30 till 8.30pm Come along to our annual event — we will be presenting lots of badges to Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Group Camp There’s also news, reviews, refreshments. … and cake. The whole family is welcome. We’re now fully booked for our annual Group Camp and Sleepover at Blackwell. Family Quiz Night Cubs & Scouts - 12th to 14th May Beavers - 13th to 14th May It’s going to be a great weekend with Cubs and Scouts spending two night in tents whilst the Beavers will be there for one night, sleeping indoors in the Holiday Centre. There will be a full programme of exciting activities including zip-wire, climbing, pedal karting, canoeing, obstacle course and much, much more. We will need parents help on Thursday 11th May at 7pm, putting up tents. It’s easy and we’ll show you how. Group Romsley Scout Centre was filled to capacity for this year’s Family Quiz Night. We were entertained by a challenging quiz ran by Richard & Yvonne Walford and Lyn & Barrie Davies. Whilst the children and young people were kept busy in the Children’s Room by Jenny Moore and Sue Hemmings. Rod & Lisa Cartwright were also busy all night running our bar and popular Prosecco Bar. Our meal was provided by Our Plaice of Hagley. Thank you to everyone who supported the evening and to all our ticket-sellers including superseller Louise Hunt. We hope that everyone enjoyed the evening which raised a magnificent £703 for our funds. Save the Date This year’s Summer Fayre is on Friday 7th July. Did you know ... Sainsburys Active Kids Once again, we are collecting Sainsburys Active Kids vouchers to buy equipment. The collecting box is in the Entrance Hall at the Scout Centre and we’re very grateful for any vouchers you may have. Thank you Romsley Round-up Thank you to GirlGuiding for the Generous Gift The Beavers have been busy becoming Scientists, trying a variety of tests for the Experiment Badge. They’ve also been learning to prepare different foods for the Cooks Badge. We were thrilled to receive a wonderful gift from Romsley Rainbows, Brownies and Guides to commemorate our 50th Anniversary. The Colony have also been making cards and presents for Mother’s Day and Easter. District Commissioner Debbie Carter presented the Group with a framed limited edition print by Beatrix Potter. The author drew the picture in 1928 for a Guide Company that was camping on her farm in the Lake District and it has been reproduced by GirlGuiding . The painting will be proudly displayed at the Scout Centre. The Cubs have been working on the Personal Challenge, choosing to do something they find difficult. They’ve also been doing the Our World Challenge, learning about Greece, Hannahkah, doing Good Turns and helping the community. And the Pack have enjoyed a Torchlight Hike over Clent Hill. The Scouts were entertained with a visit to the Village Pantomime. They also held a Jamming Night, bringing instruments to earn the Musicians Badge. The Troop have also been doing the First Aid Badge and Skills Badge. Our Scouts took part in the District Rifle Shooting Competition at Kinver Camp Site recently. Meanwhile the Cubs came 3rd in the District 6-a-side Football Competition at Leasowes Sports Centre. 8 Cubs take their Promise Romsley First As youngsters spend two years in Beavers, it's rare to have 3 siblings at the same time. So when 2 lovely twins joined their big brother at Beavers, we had a first at Romsley.
