(AN INTERNATIONAL
WORKSHOP
130 participants from 7 countries
attended the first
workshop )
held in March, 2000. Presentations and round table discussions
explored mechanisms of fatty acid transport across the bloodbrain barrier, the role of astrocytes and neurons in processing
and distribution of PUFA in the brain, the physiologic roles of
docosahexaenoic acid in the neuron, and peroxisome biogenesis
disorders in humans and animal models (J. Mol. Neurosci. Vol.
16, Nos. 2/3, 2001). The format will continue to emphasize open
discussion among the participants. The disease focus will be
Alzheimer’s disease, along with an update on the peroxisomal
disorders.
