cheating
1. It is shown in a statistics that cheating in high schools has risen dramatically during the past 50
years. According to one recent survey of middle schoolers, 2/3 of respondents reported
cheating on exams while 9/10 reported copying another’s homework.i
2. There is a correlation ship between cheating and quality of school. In order to solve the
problem of cheating, schools need to have definite policies regarding it. Also when the teachers
try to make the assignments meaningful and interesting to the students, the incentive to cheat
and do them by themselves increase. Moreover the school should teach the importance of
being true to themselves and keeping their value from outside pressures. The school should
make sure they are educationally programmed so that students are not only assessed through
standard tests but through other means as well.
3. I have come to cwu last quarter as an exchange student. As the professors emphasize multiple
times the devastating results of cheating, I had no motive to cheat. Also since there are many
tests during the quarter to make up for one badly taken test, the need to cheat decreased.
4. As we are living in a digital world with the advance of word processors and the internet,
cheating also has entered the digital age. Students can simply ‘paste’ others’ work, and cheat
during online classes. This can be proven by the comparison of students cheating in live classes
to online classes. iiAs they can get decent results and receive answers without listening to the
lecture or searching resources, students have fewer motives to study in efficient ways during
the quarter and develop their education in their major. As a result, students who cheat can have
a hard time surviving in the rigors of collegiate academia.
5. The best way is to make an atmosphere where cheating is not forgivable. When there is a good
relationship between students and teachers, and students and parents, the percentage of
cheating dramatically decreases. It is easier to cheat in a class with a professor who has no
relationship with the students than with a professor who has a close relationship with the
students. Once a relationship is made, there is excitement and motive in cheating. Furthermore,
professors should discuss the rules of cheating and plagiarism with the students and tell the long
run results of cheating.
metacognition
1. Metacognition is the knowledge of a person’s cognitive activities in the learning
learning, 3
2. process. With metacognitive skills, people are capable of planning their actions ahead and
grade their performance progresses. It is being consciously aware of oneself as problem solver
and control one’s mental processing, and judge one’s level of judging. In other word, they have
the perspective of “cognition about cognition”.
3. It is officially said that metacognition, the knowledge of cognition refers to what individuals
know about their own cognition or about cognition in general. 1iii
