HAVE YOU READ?
Dead Gorgeous
by Malorie Blackman
Nova is bored and discontented, largely ignored by her harrassed, overworked parents, and
jealous of her older sister’s good looks. When she meets handsome Liam, she can’t believe
her luck, but then she discovers that he is not quite like other boys...
In this unusual ghost story, Malorie Blackman unfolds a many-layered tale about the challenges
of adolescence, family relationships and sibling rivalry. Ultimately, however, this is a hopeful story
about overcoming feelings of isolation and loneliness.

FRIDAY 1ST MAY 2015
This week in Reception class we visited
the garden center in order to buy compost,
plants, pots and tools so we can build our
own garden.
We also learnt the new sound ‘igh’ as in might, light, high and red word ‘your’.
We also looked at capacity talking about full, half full and empty and we did
some more subtraction.
Year 1 have been reading lots of real and
nonsense words this week and practising
there phonics sounds.
We have almost finished learning our set 3 sounds so it is really important
children are practising and applying these sounds at home as well
as in school. Our focus in numeracy this week has been measuring.
The children have been measuring lots of different computer game
characters using rulers and tape measures as well as ordering objects
from shortest to tallest. How many objects can you measure at home?
Its been a very productive week in Year 2
with lots of learning, showing off our skills
and preparing for our SAT’s in a few weeks.
We have learnt about measuring length in centimetres and metres in maths.
We have also practised the names of 2D and 3D shapes.
Can you find any 3D shapes at home? In literacy, the children have written
their adverts for their amazing computer games! There are some excellent
budding sales people in Year 2!

DECISION
TIME 2015:
LATEST POLL PUTS TORIES 5 POINTS AHEAD OF LABOUR
Source: Sky News
WITH ONE WEEK OF CAMPAIGNING TO GO UNTIL ELECTION
The Conservative Party is leading Labour by five points, the latest poll suggests.
With one week to go until the
election, the monthly Ipsos MORI
survey for the Evening Standard
newspaper suggests the Tories
are on 35% with Labour trailing
on 30%.
It shows a reversal of fortunes for the
two main parties compared to the
previous Ipsos MORI poll on 16 April,
which suggested Labour had a two point lead.
BBC Leaders’ Special Election Promo
The latest survey - conducted
between 26 and 28 April - suggests
the Lib Dems climbed to 8%, up one
point from last month’s poll, while
UKIP remained unchanged on 10%.
“So when you average them all out, they are still
level-pegging. I think we need to wait for a few more
polls to come out to see if this is a trend.”
The Greens also remained steady on 8%.
Farrell added: “But if the Conservatives do have
a five-point lead and the Liberal Democrats are
creeping up to 8%, you could start to see the potential
for a possible coalition between the Lib Dems and the
Tories again, although the tensions between them are
fraying at the moment.”
Labour and the Tories have been neck and neck in
most polls since the start of the year, with neither
establishing a sustained lead exceeding the typical
three-point margin of error.
Sky News Political Correspondent Jason Farrell said:
“There have been other polls that have shown the
Tories with this kind of lead - one ICM/Guardian poll
about two weeks ago gave them a six-point lead, and
(Tory peer) Lord Ashcroft did a national poll last week
that also gave them a six-point lead.
Polls have consistently suggested that neither the
Conservatives nor Labour are likely to win an overall
majority in the 7 May vote.
“But the majority of polls over the campaign period
have given Labour a slight lead.
Which party do you think is going to receive the most votes at next
week’s General Election?
If you were old enough to vote, which way would you be voting?
Which issues do you think are the most important when deciding which
party to support?
