SUSTAINABILITY 2015
IN ACTION
In 2010, Kruger Products launched Sustainability 2015, our five-year
initiative to reduce our environmental impact.
In 2014, we installed our heat recovery system in the Crabtree facility.
This reduces the amount of energy required to run the plant by
capturing hot, humid air from one of the paper machines and reusing
it to heat process water as well as the facility itself during the winter.
The solution is unique in that it allows a combination of multiple heat
sources into a single recovery unit. This technology reduces energy
consumption by 6% (110,000 GJ) and GHG emissions by 9% (5,500
metric tonnes CO2) annually, which is equivalent to removing 1,400
cars from the roads or planting 750,000 trees.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Corporately, we support a host of community-building and philanthropic endeavours, particularly in the areas of
cancer research, conservation, women’s athletics and children’s health, with major organizations including the
Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Earth
Day Canada and Nature Canada.
At our Crabtree facility, we support organizations on a more local level including:
Leucan
Employee fundraising activities
such as the Normand Laurence
Leucan Golf Tournament;
St. Vincent de Paul Supporting the efforts of St Vincent de Paul
to feed families in need during the holiday
season; and
Joliette Cegep Foundation
Donations to the Cegep
Foundation;
Centraide Funds donated to Centraide through
employee payroll program.
RECOGNITION
The plant has been recognized by several provincial organizations:
Cercle d’or Award (2010), Excelsiors – Chambre de commerce du Grand Joliette
e Réseau Écolectrique, Hydro-Québec – Recognition for 5% reduction of annual electricity
