Genesis Young Leaders Board Positions
June 2017 – June 2018
The Genesis Young Leaders (GYL) Board meets every other month June 2017– June 2018 (6 total).
Meetings are held from 12:00-1:00pm at Genesis Outreach located at 4411 Lemmon Avenue, Suite 201.
President(s):
The President(s) shall be the principal executive officer of GYL and shall in general supervise and control all of
the business and affairs of the GYL auxiliary. They shall preside over all general and board meetings.

- Delegate tasks
President(s)-Elect: will select mid-year
The President(s)-Elect shall assist the President in their duties, preside in their absence, and assume the
Presidency in the event that the President(s) is unable to complete their term of office. The President-Elect
shall automatically assume the office of the President the following year.
- Assist Presidents
- Participate in board nominations
Parliamentarian(s): reserved for previous year’s president(s)
The Parliamentarian(s) shall serve as advisors to the President(s) and members on procedural matters.
Secretary/Treasurer:
The Secretary/Treasurer shall combine the duties of a secretary and treasurer and will be responsible for the
general records of the Young Leaders. This will include minutes and attendance at all board meetings,
correspondence for the general membership meetings, and any financial records for the membership.
Education and Community Outreach Chair(s):
The Education and Community Outreach Chair(s) will help identify, coordinate and/or participate in
educational outreach opportunities for the Genesis Young Leaders to build a greater presence in the
community (ex: resource fairs, young professionals’ events, conferences, etc.). This will include representing
Genesis at speaking engagements and events as needed.
Membership Co-Chairs:
The Membership Co-Chairs shall be responsible for setting membership goals and establishing a membership
strategy for that year’s membership drive. The Membership Chairmen shall be responsible for overseeing all
activities of the committee, membership retention and the annual membership campaign of the Genesis Young
Leaders.
- Sign all membership letters
- Ensure that all board members submit 10 new names for membership
- Work with Public Relations Chair(s) to promote GYL membership on social media sites
- Follow up with prospective members
- Highlight membership at events
- Update board on membership numbers
GYL Night Liaisons:
The GYL Night Liaisons shall work directly with the Genesis Community Engagement Manager coordinating
the once monthly GYL Nights. GYL Nights take place at the shelter from 7:00-8:00pm on the second
Wednesday of each month.
- Plan activities for and attend GYL Nights (rotate monthly between committee members)
- Send reminders to GYL Night volunteers
Public Relations Chair(s):
The Public Relations Chair(s) shall be responsible for effectively communicating the purpose and goals of the
GYL auxiliary to the public and increasing the GYL presence on social networking sites.
- Highlight special events, volunteer opportunities, membership drive and other interesting stories on
social media sites
- Work with Genesis staff to update Facebook page for all volunteer and special events
- Manage additional GYL social media outlets as appropriate
- Pitch special events to local media, publications and bloggers
Special Event Co-Chairs:
The GYL Special Event Co-Chairs shall be responsible for the coordination of special events.
- Coordinate GYL membership events (happy hour, shelter tour, etc.)
- Work with Genesis staff to highlight volunteer opportunities that could coincide with GYL Special Events
Members-At-Large:
The Members-At-Large shall attend board meetings with the purpose of representing the general membership
of Young Leaders. These members shall be assigned tasks from the President on an as needed basis throughout
the year. Members-At-Large shall also be assigned to the various committees of their choice that are overseen
by the above Chairmen.
