UPES BECOMES THE FIRST ACADEMIC PARTNER OF NITI AAYOG
Dehradun, 8th January 2017:
UPES – the Nation Builders University achieved yet another landmark in its journey of contributions
towards nation building by becoming the first higher educational Institute to partner the “NITI AAYOG”.
Disclosing broad outlines of the MOU signed between UPES & NITI AAYOG, Mr Arun Dhand, Director
Media Affairs, UPES shared that the MOU will run for the next five years wherein UPES and NITI Aayog
would jointly examine the various energy sector issues such as resource availability, production,
consumption, sectoral demand, local and global environmental impacts and implication of changes in
energy prices and technology. The MOU also provides a framework for co-operation between NITI
Aayog and UPES to collaborate for designing, developing, and conducting consultative policy dialogue
and business research to promote and enable high level energy efficiency policy formulation in India by
jointly undertaking several collaborative studies he said.
Dr. Prasoom Dwivedi, Senior Associate Professor and Head, Department of Economics and International
Business, College of Management & Economic Studies, UPES informed that University is in the present
already working with NITI Aayog and are jointly studying the Impact of Renewable Penetration on Grid
Integration in India and Japan and Implication of Clean Coal Technologies (CCT) Energy Scenarios of India
and Japan. The main purpose of these two studies is to build scenario for 2032 and 2047 for India and
Japan keeping the Intended National Determined Contribution (INDC) commitment of both countries in
consideration. NITI Aayog has also collaborated with Institute of Energy Economics of Japan (IEEJ) for
these studies he said. Recently, teams of NITI Aayog and UPES also conducted a workshop for modeling
and creating Scenarios for 2032 and 2047 for India and Japan. The results are under review and
validation.
The National Institution for Transforming India also called “NITI AAYOG” was formed
via a resolution
of the Union Cabinet on January 1, 2015. NITI Aayog is the premier policy ‘Think Tank’ of the
Government of India, providing both directional and policy inputs. While designing strategic and long
term policies and programs for the Government of India. NITI Aayog also provides relevant technical
advice to the Centre and States. At the core of NITI Aayog’s creation are two hubs – Team India Hub and
the Knowledge and Innovation Hub. The Team India Hub leads the engagement of states with the
Central government, while the Knowledge and Innovation Hub builds NITI’s think-tank capabilities.
These hubs reflect the two key tasks of the Aayog. NITI Aayog is also developing itself as a State of the
Art Resource Centre, with the necessary resources, knowledge and skills, that will enable it to act with
speed, promote research and innovation, provide strategic policy vision for the government, and deal
with contingent issues.
The UPES team ably led by Professor Dayanand Pandey, Director of College of Management & Economic
Studies, UPES which is working on this with NITI Aayog consists of Dr. Prasoom Dwivedi, Senior Associate
Professor and Head, Department of Economics and International Business; Prof. Anil Kumar, Professor &
Head, Department of Power and Infrastructure Management; Prof. Ghodke Praveen Kumar, Assistant
Professor (SG), Department of Electrical Engineering; Dr. Hiranmoy Roy, Senior Associate Professor,
Head, Center for Energy Economics Research (CEER) and Dr. R Jayaraj, Associate Professor, Department
of Economics and International Business along with students pursuing their course in MA
Economics(With specialization in Energy Economics)and includes Mr. Udit Mathur, Ms. Ikshita, Ms.
Nikita, Ms. Resham.
