The week is mostly made up of curriculum based activities that we would otherwise do throughout the year. Your son will spend a day with various departments getting involved with extension work related to that subject area. At this stage I wish to outline the planned week and request that you complete the attached consent form and make a payment that will allow us to make the necessary arrangements. The cost is minimal as we wish to keep it as low as possible. Students will arrive at school in the usual manner before traveling to The Oasis centre in St Lawrence where they will spend the day with a visiting team from the Kintbury Retreat (www.kintbury.org). Students will be engaged in a variety of spiritual activities before being returned to school in time to go home in the usual way. Students should attend school in sensible casual clothes and will require a packed lunch and plenty to drink. Science Extension Activity Rats, Reactions and Rockets! Meet outside Sports Hall Changing Room – 8.45am. Students will spend the day at school with our science department engaged in a variety of activities relating to the subject. Activities include building rockets in Physics, devising reactions in Chemistry and an optional rat dissection in Biology. Students should attend school in sensible casual clothes and make the usual lunch arrangements. Maths Activity Day Meet outside Miss Kenny’s Room - 8.45am. Students should arrive at school in the usual manner. From there they will be briefed on the ‘Maths trail’ they will take part in. Boys will walk with staff to and from Howard Davis Park. They will be grouped into teams and over the course of the day, will use their map reading skills, mathematical skills, and of course teamwork skills! Students should bring a pen/pencil and a packed lunch (with something to drink), in a backpack, they should also bring suitable wet weather protection or sun protection depending on the day. This should be easy to carry as they will have it with them for most of the day. Boys will return to school for the end of a normal school day. DT Activity Day Meet outside Lower Workshop – 8.45am. Students will spend the day at school in the workshops engaged with an extended design and construction task, resulting in a finished product which they will bring home. Students should attend school in sensible casual clothes and make the usual lunch arrangements. House Cricket Meet outside Games Hall – 8.45am. All students will be involved in House Cricket at FB Fields for the day. Boys will be transported to and from FB fields where they will play cricket for their house. They should attend in usual PE kit as they would for their games day. Boys can also wear cricket whites if they have them. Boys will require a packed lunch and plenty to drink, and should bring suitable weather protection depending on the day. Unfortunately there has to be a £15 charge for the week to cover costs of transport and materials. Please complete the consent form attached and return it to House Tutors along with a cheque by Friday 20th May. Cheques should be made payable to De La Salle College and please ensure that your son’s name and house, together with ‘Year 8 Enrichment Week’ are written on the back of the cheque.
