To cover the Projects Manager’s expenses. He can’t pay them out of his own pocket as
teachers earn very little in Uganda. These expenses help him to fulfil the work
necessary to enable volunteers to arrange their placements and pickup services.
He spends a great deal of his own (not school’s) time corresponding with and
answering the questions of enquiring volunteers. He is not paid extra by the school for
doing this. The school doesn’t have the funds to do this.
Examples of these expenses are: boda boda £2 return to Jinja 2x weekly minimum =
£16 per month minimum, internet £6 pm at least for volunteer communications,
currency exchange fee £5 per volunteer fee per month. Plus other expenses as
detailed on the pie chart, according to need)

Maintenance and upkeep of the volunteer accommodation
If volunteers choose to live at another venue when volunteering at the school, it is very much appreciated if they
make a donation to the school of the donation element of the placement fee in order to help the children.
This amount is $160 per month, but this payment is not mandatory
Other volunteer projects and NGOs in the area are charging a minimum of $533/£350 per month/4weeks placement
donation and that does not include any accommodation or food. Their volunteers have to live elsewhere and pay the
additional costs of the accommodation, food and transport.
(Backpackers in Jinja = $280 per 4 weeks for a bed in a dormitory, without food. People staying there would have to
fund their food and beverages, plus pay for transport to and from the school each day. It’s $25 for 1 person per night
in a double room)
