Crested Butte Fire Protection District Job Announcement Firefighter/EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic Crested Butte Fire Protection District is now accepting applications for Firefighter/Intermediate or Paramedic. The fire district currently has one opening for Firefighter/Intermediate or Paramedic. An eligibility list will be created for a period of 1 year. Crested Butte Fire Protection District covers approx. 220 square miles with a base population of 2,500 and swells to over 10,000 at the peak of ski season and other vacation/tourist periods during fall, winter, summer and spring. Crested Butte is a destination resort town that is quickly growing and becoming more popular. Crested Butte has great skiing, great mountain biking, fishing and many more activities to be enjoyed. CBFPD averages approx. 600 – 650 calls per year. Calls include 70% EMS and 30% Fire. CBFPD is a mostly volunteer department with 3 full time Firefighter/ALS staff. The district provides ALS response and transport in which daily staffing consists of an ALS shift supervisor, ALS member and BLS member. Due to the remoteness and long transport times, CBFPD is proud to have several Waivered Acts not common to combination departments such as RSI, Ketamine and Antibiotics. CBFPD is a progressive department and we strive to be the best. A valid State of Colorado Driver’s license Ability to obtain Colorado Firefighter 1 and HAZMAT OPS certification within 2 years of hire. Current ACLS, PALS and CPR card Ability to meet physical fitness requirements as established by the district Please note that this is a resort town and living here can be difficult. Please take into consideration the cost of living and the ability to find housing. Although not required, CBFPD would prefer the applicant to live in the Gunnison Valley upon hire date.
