3. Statement of Roles (no more than 300 words).
A separate statement (signed by both the ECR and the mentor and pasted into this application)
outlining the skills and capabilities of and specifying what work is to be done by:
a. the principal researcher (ECR);

4. Briefly outline how the grant will develop the principal researcher’s (ECR’s) research capacity,
ability to apply for future grants, establish a rapport with practice and build a research reputation
at a national and/or international level (200 words)
5. How will the project align with CIMA’s Research Agenda and help to develop the science of
Management Accounting? (no more than 150 words)
6. Brief survey of relevant related work (no more than 350 words) and include a brief reference
list on a separate page.
7. The research plan (no more than 600 words)

8. Proposed practitioner output/s expected from this research. Please choose at least one
compulsory output from the following list:

In addition, CIMA require three quarterly progress reports (of no more than 500 words) and an
end of project report.
9. Proposed academic output/s from this research. Please specify the number of outputs and the
indicative target journal/s.
10. Short CVs (maximum 1 page each) for both the principal researcher (ECR) and the mentor,
including brief references to any funded research projects pasted into this application.
11. Detailed budget breakdown for the funding (please read the guidance notes for what costs can
be included in the grant).

Before submitting the application, please ensure that you have:
1. Completed the application form for CIMA research grant in full including one page CVs
for the ECR researcher and the mentor, ‘Statement of Roles’ and ‘Letter of Support’.
Please only submit one form including all requested information as a word document.
2. Approached your referees and confirmed they are willing to provide a reference for you
upon request from CIMA. References will be requested for shortlisted applicants only
and within 48 hours of shortlisting.
