While I was thinking about a topic for the research paper. I was looking for an interesting topics, during my brain storming proses I decided to write about helpful topic which is pollution so we can live in a better life. Everything in this life have an advantage and disadvantage even pollution, so we have to know the disadvantages to help our environment. Pollution: Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that cause adverse change. Pollution is any discharge of material, energy or chemical substances. It is the addition to the ecosystem of something which has a detrimental effect on it. Pollutants may cause primary damage, with direct identifiable impact on the environment, or secondary damage in the form of minor perturbations in the delicate balance of the biological food web that detectable over long time periods. Advantages and disadvantages of pollution: The advantage is that plants can give out more oxygen in day time which is healthy. The disadvantage is that our surrounding may be polluted and not clean. Forms of pollution: There are many forms such as conventional and toxic: 1cadmium 2copper 3lead 4mercury 5phenol conventional: 1ammonia 2BOD 3Nitrogen 4Pathogens 5Phosphorus Causes of pollution: 3 201200258 The ultimate cause of pollution is human activity itself. Which is: 1industries for various human needs 2agriculture for food production and industrial needs 3health care for health of human beings and animals 4transports for mobility if human beings 5dwelling for settlement in city or villages 6energy for various direct human needs and industrial needs Kinds of pollution: Air pollution: is the contamination of our air by harmful substances such as carbon monoxide and random particles. Water pollution: is any chemical, physical or biological change in the quality of water that has a harmful effect on the drinks or uses. Soil pollution: is mainly due to chemicals in herbicides and pesticides, dumped in public places such as streets, parks, picnic areas, at bus and near shops. Pollution effect: Air pollution have many effect that affect the human being and environment such as, asthma attacks, headaches and dizziness, cancer, premature death, irritation of eyes, nose, mouth and throat, also increased respiratory disease such as bronchitis, cardiovascular problems, neurobehavioral disorders, reduced energy levels, reduced lung functioning. Water pollution: Typhoid, Amoebiasis, Giardiasis, Ascariasis, Hookworm. They are a diseases caused by polluted drinking water. Rashes, ear ache, pink eye, respiratory infections, hepatitis, encephalitis, gastroenteritis, diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach aches. They are a diseases caused by polluted beach water. Soil pollution effects: Causes cancer including leukemia, causes neuromuscular blockage as well as depression of the central nervous system, also causes headaches, nausea, fatigue, eye irritation and skin rash, for young children causing developmental damage to the brain. indoor and outdoor pollution: Indoor Outdoor 4 201200258 Smoking effect the person and all people contact with it Fumes from gasburners, paints, cleaning materials Gases from gasburners as nitrogen, carbon etc The strong outdoor from these chemicals makes breathing uncomfortable and can worsen existing allergies Volatile organic compounds like benzene. Metals such as copper and lead. Ground level ozone is produced by a chemical reaction in the air between pollution and sunlight. Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is found in motor-car exhaust fumes History of air pollution: Year 1948 1953 1963 1965 1966 Location Donora, Pennsylvania New york New york New york New york Casualties 20 dead, 600 injured 250 dead 200 – 400 dead 400 dead 165 dead History of Hazardous waste pollution: Year 1966 Location Detroit, Michigan 1970 Love Canal, New york 1979 Elizabeth, New jersey 1979 Three mile island 1979 Woburn, Massachusetts Damage Nuclear power plant Meltdown Birth defects that were caused by a toxic waste dump 30 injured by toxic smoke from an explosion Nuclear power plant meltdown with a release of nuclear gas and water Toxic waste dump causes 15 people to die Conclusion: In summary, we can understand from this research that pollution is a human behavior if we do our best to help environment we will live with a better place and health. Lets educate the community about this issue and try to resolve it. 5 201200258 Pictures: Air pollution: Water pollution : Soil pollution: 6 201200258 References: http://premit08.hubpages.com/hub/how-to-prevent-from-polluion http://ww.asthma.co.za/articales/ref03.htm http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~ra128/histor~1.htm http://www.tropical-rainforest-animals.com/pollution-effects.html http://www.cotf.edu/ETE/modules/waterq/forms.htm http://www.tutorvista.com/content/biology-iv/environmental-pollution/polluioncauses.php 7
