Support a person in your workplace to use any three of the following types of assistive equipment: bed pole, grab handles, monkey bars or ladder. handrail, grab bars or safety rails. shower and/or bath equipment. toileting aids which may include a commode or a raised toilet seat. While you support a person, ensure you support them to move according to: their characteristics and abilities. a risk assessment and a risk management plan. the person’s moving and handling plan. your workplace policies and procedures. The person's moving and handling plan refers to the section of a person's service plan that records the techniques and equipment recommended for the moving and handling the person. A service plan is for delivery of support services. It is developed by service providers with the people accessing services and their family/whānau. Support(ing) people to move using normal movement patterns means guiding people so they are enabled to move using their normal movement patterns in accordance with their current capacity and any limitations they may be experiencing. The primary emphasis is upon step by step coaching and guidance (rather than physical support) from the support worker.
