PE with a smile! Wigan’s Oxygen Freejumping aiming to get freejumping
on the national curriculum
Monday, 31 July 17: Oxygen Freejumping, Wigan’s largest trampoline park, is
calling on all locals to sign up to a petition to get freejumping added to the
curriculum and bring smiles to PE lessons.
Oxygen is aiming to hit 10,000 signatures before taking the petition to the local
education authority (LEA) to ask that freejumping is included as part of school
PE lessons. For each signature of support, Oxygen is offering an hour of free
access for local school children in an effort to get as many youngsters jumping
as possible!
The campaign follows the successful launch of the trampoline park at the end
of May, with over 230 local schoolchildren the first to experience the park.
ukactive’s latest child inactivity report showed that only half of 7 year olds are
meeting the physical activity guidelines, with girls significantly less likely to meet
the daily guidelines than boys.1 The study also revealed that half of all UK 7year-olds are sedentary for 6.4 hours or more each day.
The situation seems to get even worse as children enter their teens with just
over one in ten girls at age 14 currently meeting official guidelines for physical
activity, half the number of boys at the same age, whilst according to the World
Health Organisation, inactivity is the 4th largest cause of premature death2 and

directly contributes to one in six deaths in the UK, making it as dangerous as
smoking.
David Stalker, CEO of Oxygen Freejumping commented: “Freejumping is the
newest way for children to get active with the rise in popularity of trampoline
parks across the country. Research shows trampolining has many health
benefits, but above all else it is great fun! In an age where children’s
entertainment often revolves around technology, we believe exercise needs to
be fun, smile on their face and that’s why we are trying to get freejumping on
the curriculum.
“It would be fantastic if the local community would join our mission and sign the
petition, We are excited to get as many people jumping as possible at our new
Wigan venue!”
Paula Norris, PA to Headteacher at Ince CE Primary School,
said: “It was brilliant to see all the different kinds of activities that the children
can enjoy at the new park – and also great that teachers and parents have an
area to relax whilst the expert Oxygen team takes over! It was really refreshing
to see the children learning something new whilst having so much fun. All the
stresses of SATs have now well and truly been bounced out of them! We’re
already looking forward to our school’s next visit to the park!”

About Oxygen Freejumping
Oxygen Freejumping was founded in late 2014 by Fred Turok, founder of LA
Fitness and David Stalker, former CEO of ukactive and Managing Director of
Harpers Fitness Clubs. Oxygen Freejumping is set to be the first national chain
of trampoline parks across the United Kingdom. Oxygen is currently operating
two sites: West Acton and Southampton and over summer 2016 will open in
Wigan, Blackburn, Manchester, Trafford, Derby, North Shields and Leeds.
Oxygen parks are typically between 20,000 and 40,000 square feet featuring
interconnected trampolines stretching literally from the floor to the ceiling
providing a unique wall to wall jumping experience that can be enjoyed by
anyone no matter age, size, fitness level or experience.
Oxygen aims to take trampolining to a whole new level with its parks, making
freejumping open to everyone from families to competitive sportspeople.
