How it works:
Nutrient cycling is the basic principle that
underlies worm farming. This practice
enables us to turn food waste into organic
fertiliser, whilst we restore nutrients and
energy back into the system. This enhances
soil productivity and it is environmentally
friendly.
How it is used:
Worm farming improves the following:







Nutrient availability in the soil
Increases water retention capability
Decreases soil compaction
Increases the root-to-shoot ratio
Root health is increased
Susceptibility to environmental stress is reduced.
Most importantly nutrients are recycled back into the
system instead of being locked in a landfill site.
Constructing a worm Farm:
You will need the following:
 Container/box-like structure
 Bedding – a mixture of shredded
newspaper/cardboard, soil, dried
leaves
 Food – fruit and vegetable scraps
 A tin of compost worms
Audit : Design a simple audit to check current practice
related to this technology.
