3D Computer games are rapidly evolving in their technical sophistication. In
contrast, the actual content often does not go further than the simple first
person shooter scenario. How can we use the potential of inexpensive, immersive and photorealistic computer technologies to create meaningful content
beyond shooting your friends?1
AD41700 Computer Games explores historical and contemporary computer
games in a cultural context and introduces students to the basic techniques
of computer game development in UNITY3D. In this course students will
create experimental and artistic computer game sketches that challenge
traditional 3D computer game scenarios and storylines. In the second half of
the semester, students will have the opportunity to work together in groups to
design and produce a computer game concept in the form of a fully developed
level, simulation, machinima animation or other final project. Workshops,
discussions and critiques in this course will be accompanied by lab visits
across campus and presentations by guest speakers as well as readings from
relevant literature.
