Concessions Coordinator—Kelly Lee
Family: Husband, Mark; Children, Skylar (8th grade) Brooke (6th
grade)
Church: Southeast Christian Church
Occupation: Mortgage Loan Officer
School(s) Attended: Male and Bellarmine
Sports Played/Coached: Softball
What made you interested in the concessions coordinator position at CAL? I love being around sports in
whatever capacity and this was an opportunity for me to get involved at my youngest daughter’s school.
You’ve worked in concessions before. Tell us about your experience. I helped at Southeast Christian
Church for 13 years with their youth baseball and softball program, and one of the areas that was part of
my responsibility, was keeping the concession stand running on game days. I would open and close most
days, but also helped with training the volunteers and working as needed. It was a great opportunity to
talk to a lot of people and see the smiles of all the younger children when they came up to buy something.
What is your “go to” concessions stand dinner? Nachos and bottled water (if there is chili, then I put
chili with my nachos).
What is your goal this year in this new position? To try to fill the shoes of my predecessor. In replacing
someone who held the position for so long, I just hope I can catch on quickly to be as efficient as she
was.
How have sports (playing or coaching) impacted your walk with Jesus? I could write a book about this. I
grew up loving sports and loving kids. I had some friends from college invite me to join them in a basketball league at Southeast and from there formed some great friendships with some very Godly folks. I became a regular attendee at Southeast and my friends helped me adjust to the size that had always scared
me away. I began coaching at some local public high schools and invited a few of these friends to help
me coach. It helped me having these ladies there to help witness to these teenagers and to me at the same
time. After watching a few players struggle with some large life issues, I realized I needed more to equip
me to help them. I became more involved in bible studies, started to let go of areas I couldn't control, and
turned my life back over to the Lord. Things just started to change for me after that. I got involved with
the sports program at Southeast, met my husband via an introduction from those new friendships formed
from the basketball league, and then have been blessed with 2 very active athletic daughters.
What makes you laugh out loud? The silliness of kids, including when you mix my husband in with
them.
LIGHTNING ROUND

Apple Cider or Hot Chocolate? Apple cider

CAL 7TH GRADE BOYS TOP WHITEFIELD AND OLDHAM
The Christian Academy 7th Grade Boys Basketball team played
three games around the Christmas break, winning two and losing
the third in quite a thrilling game. CAL is now 8-5 on the season.
CAL used an aggressive pressing defense and dominated the hustle
game in defeating Whitefield, 44-8, Monday, December 12, in a
game played at CAL.
The CAL defense held Whitefield to 23% shooting in the first half
and then to only 5% shooting in the second period, holding the visitors to only two second half points. The Centurions outrebounded
Whitefield, 35-20, and forced Whitefield into 18 turnovers to the
game on strength of 15 steals.
CAL led after the 1st quarter, 13-4, and had stretched their lead to 23-6 at halftime. Charlie Storm then lit up
the scoreboard with 12 points in the third quarter alone as CAL raced to a 37-6 lead before finishing the game
at 44-8.
Storm led the Centurions with 17 points while Conner Carr had 11
points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Will Thompson scored four
points to go along with six rebounds and five steals. Casey Sallade had two points and five rebounds. Also scoring for CAL
were Collin Hodges and Camden Peters with three points
each. Garrett Guthals and Tommy Ott also scored two each.
The following night, CAL attempted to avenge an earlier loss and
gave South Oldham all it bargained before losing, 66-59.
CAL had big nights from both Conner Carr (27 points, 8 rebounds) and Charlie Storm (21 points, 5 rebounds)
with both scoring in double figures in both halves. With both teams using pressure defenses the action began
fast and furious in the first quarter. South Oldham escaped with an 18-17 lead after the initial period with the
teams battling to a 26-26 halftime tie.
However, the wheels fell off at the beginning of the second half for CAL. South Oldham hit their first ten
shots of the half on the way to shooting 70% in the second half. South Oldham pulled out to a 49-33 lead and
53-39 by the end of the third quarter. CAL wasn’t finished, outscoring South Oldham 20-7 in the fourth period, but the rally fell short for the Centurions. (continued on next page)

scored four points for CAL, Jacob Price and Caden Hauser
both scored three, and Casey Sallade scored one.
The 7th grade Centurions went on the road to defeat Oldham
County, 51-32, in a Tuesday night game before Christmas.
CAL sprinted to an early 17-7 first quarter lead and stretched
it to 19-7 before Oldham County scored 13 unanswered points
to take a 20-19 lead. A CAL field goal to close the half gave
them a 21-20 lead going into the break.
The third quarter saw a pretty much even battle with CAL
leading, 30-27, as the period closed. The Centurions the outscored the Colonels, 21-5, in the fourth quarter to
earn their 51-32 win. The Centurion defense forced Oldham County into 14 second half turnovers to secure
the victory.
Adam Ballard had a big night for CAL with a double double of 17 points and 12 rebounds to go along with
four steals. Charlie Storm had 13 points and 5 assists, and Tommy Ott scored nine points and collected four
steals. Matthew Mauzy scored seven points, Jacob Price scored four, and Casey Sallade scored one. Casey
Sallade had eight rebounds and Jacob Price had five as CAL outrebounded Oldham, 43-24, for the game.
CAL finds themselves on the road for most of January. The Centurions next hit the hardwood for two games
on the road the first week that school returns. CAL plays at Crosby Middle School at 5:30 on Tuesday, January 3, and then plays at Shelby County West Middle School, Thursday, January 5 at 6:30. The Centurions
will also play at Spencer County on Monday, January 9, at 6:30.
