Data protection and confidentiality authorisation The University’s Student Support Services’ Confidentiality Policy usually requires the student’s permission to share sensitive and confidential information with colleagues, unless a student is considered to be at risk of harming him or herself, or others. The Confidentiality Policy is set within the context of the Data Protection Act 1998, the University’s principles of confidentiality relating to students, and the relevant professional codes of conduct. Any data or records held in the Student Accommodation Office are confidential, secure and accessed only by the Student Accommodation Team. Data may be used for statistical reasons, but these reports do not identify or disclose information that will identify an individual. We need your permission to store both this data and these records, and to disclose them to others. We may recommend disclosure of relevant information to the appropriate personnel in order to ensure your support across the University.
