Term 1 – Nursery Rhymes: Humpty Dumpty
Target Language:

 Using a paper glue stick
Introduction to Topic:
Circle Time: Register and Songs
Theme Introduction: “I know someone who fell over and bumped his head!” Show students Humpty Dumpty
toy/flashcard – Attachment 1.
Print the Brick wall flashcard (Attachment 2) on A3 card. Show the students how he was sitting on the wall and
then he fell. Oh no! He hurt his head  For effect, you can maybe put a band aid on his head to show that
we’ve put him back together again.
Sing rhyme – Rhyme visuals Attachment 5 Sing the rhyme with appropriate actions.

Extra Movement Activity: For older students, you might act out the rhyme. Seated on the floor, the
children sit up straight, role back slowly for fall, then mime horses and wave fingers for last line.
“Now where was humpty sitting? Was he under the wall? Next to the wall?” Invite children in turns to show
you using the toy/flashcard.
Main Activity:
Craft 1 – Humpty Dumpty craft
For older Students: Let them put humpty dumpty together: arms, legs etc. Colour Humpty Dumpty. Template Attachment 3
For younger students: Teacher to cut out Humpty Dumpty. Let students colour the template of Humpty dumpty.
Add a lollistick/chopstick for a handle and let students stick a band aid on Humpty Dumpty’s head

Craft 2 – The brick wall craft
Let students paint an A4 size card with brown paint for the brick wall. Stick Humpty Dumpty craft on the wall.
Extra Craft Ideas: Sample pictures attached to the lesson. (Attachment 7)
Sensory Play:
For the adventurous: Break eggs in a tray for students to see. Let them touch the broken pieces of shell and
the egg. (Best to do this activity outside if you can as the class will smell like raw egg the whole day.)

Movement Activity/Game:
If there is time, sing some other well-known songs (see Song Book) or use a music CD for some group dancing
to favourite songs. E.g Hot Potatoes / Dingly Dangly Scarecrow…
Introduce parachute play here at times.

Story: Humpty Dumpty story by Brian Moses and Jan Lewis
Extension Activity for 2+yrs:
Print a copy of the Egg template (Attachment 5) for each student and cut them out and cut them into a 3 piece
puzzle. Let students put the puzzle together and draw eyes and mouth for humpty dumpty. Let the students stick
band aids to show that we’ve “put humpty dumpty back together again.” Sample picture attached to the lesson.

 A bowl of orange and brown paper brick rectangles to stick on walls

 Band aids
