Consumers Energy Work Will Interrupt Electric Service for Some Kent County Customers Early Saturday Morning GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Jan. 5, 2017 – A 30-minute electric interruption is scheduled to begin at 2:30 a.m. Saturday in portions of Gaines Township and the city of Kentwood, allowing utility crews to safely perform work on transmission equipment to maintain reliable service. Approximately 2,400 customers will be affected by the interruption. The work involves taking a Consumers Energy electrical substation near 68th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue SE out of service for electric transmission provider ITC to safely access and repair equipment on a 138,000-volt power line. The outage is expected to last no more than 30 minutes and affects Kent County customers roughly a mile east and west of Kalamazoo Avenue SE from Christie Avenue SE south to approximately 100th Street SE. Customers had received postcards notifying them of the scheduled outage for 2 a.m. The outage time was moved to 2:30 a.m. per a customer’s request. The backup date is 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
