Recording Procedures
The school uses the following to identify specific areas of concern:
2
The school uses an incident sheet to record any event which may give rise to disciplinary or
legal action, or be the subject of subsequent enquiry and a matter of public interest.
Regulations cannot comprehensively prescribe what events should be recorded but examples
for inclusion would be: injury to persons; loss of or damage to property; re-current
disciplinary problems; absconding by pupils.
Incident sheet must be placed in the pupil’s school record after being seen by the Executive
Head.
Any incidents of Racial Abuse are to be recorded.
When appropriate the report must include:a) Details of when and where the incident took place.
b) A description of any action taken.
c) Recording of witnesses, if possible.
The incident form is also to be used to record major disciplinary measures taken by a member
of staff in the application of the school discipline policy.
3) The member of Staff giving the detention will notify parents by letter, giving at least
24 hours’ notice of the detention and also the reason for the detention.
Bullying Behaviour
The aim of this discipline and behaviour policy recognises that all pupils have the right to be
safe and happy in school and free to make the most of their abilities and talents. Bullying, be
it physical, verbal or emotional, is seen as a most serious threat to this basic entitlement and
will not be tolerated at this school.
"Bullying may be distinguished from other unacceptable forms of
aggression in that it involves dominance of one pupil by another, or a
group of others, is premeditated and usually forms a pattern of behaviour
rather than an isolated incident"
DfE Circular 8/94: Pupil Behaviour and Discipline
Bullying behaviour should always be dealt with promptly and seriously. Teachers will
implement the sanctions already listed by imposing a detention and informing parents of the
reason for its imposition. In addition both the victim and the perpetrator of the bullying
behaviour will usually be counselled by their Form Teacher. The victim will be offered
support and helped to overcome any difficulties she/he may have encountered as a result of
being bullied. The perpetrator will be encouraged to view her/his actions from their victim's
point of view and challenged about their behaviour in order to ensure that it stops.
Incidents of bullying behaviour should be recorded on an incident sheet book. Any contact
with parents should also be recorded in the usual way. Teachers should also keep
appropriate records of any counselling that they undertake with victims and/or perpetrators,
particularly any targets set or alternative behaviour expected.
3
Pupils will be encouraged to tell teachers and non-teaching staff about incidents of bullying
by discussion of the issue in assemblies, tutor time and PSE lessons. The latter will also
include strategies that pupils might use to avoid being bullied. The school recognises that
incidents of bullying may occur whilst pupils are on their way to and from school. Some of
these incidents may also involve pupils from other schools in the town. By their very nature
such incidents of bullying are more complex to deal with but the school will do its best to
resolve such incidents by working co-operatively with colleagues in other schools.
