HEM: Aims and scope
HEM:
 is a track of EPELM, LM in Economic Policy.
 is based in the Department of Economics and the
School of Economics, Management and Statistics.
 offers the opportunity to have close contacts with
researchers in the field of health economics, health
policy, healthcare management, health law based in
several others leading departments of the University
of Bologna.
 aims to form a far-sighted and socially responsible
healthcare management professional working either
in private or in public environments.

Prospects
Our students will develop:
o knowledge of disciplines that are keys in the
understanding of decision-making in healthcare;
o understanding of main options in the
management, policy, planning and financing of
healthcare services;
o ability to use disciplines in formulating,
implementing and evaluating healthcare decisions,
policies and plans;
o long-run orientation in problem analysis;
o international view on solutions and best practices.

Internships
HEM students can do their curricular internship starting
from the 2nd semester of their 1st year and during their
second year.
Students dedicate 480 working hours (3 full-time months)
to the internship and upon its completion they are granted
8 ECTS.
Advising
Developing a good internship is a matter of
matching students with employers.
The overall process is coordinated by prof. Matteo
Lippi Bruni.

Master Thesis
A thesis should consist of an extended paper
containing either a critical\systematic survey of
the literature or an original contribution to it.
Project&Supervisors
In the 2nd year students develops a project and
“choose” supervisors who oversee the preparation
of their final dissertation. A project should be
handed in by the end of October 2nd year.
Advising
The overall process is coordinated by prof. Mario
Mazzocchi. Guidelines sent to you in due time.

Antonella Valva is still the reference person for
any issue concerning your academic experience
with HEM.
A new administrative tutor dedicated to HEM will
be appointed by the end of September.

o the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI)
o the Institute of Health Management and Health
Economics - University of Oslo (UiO).
o the Institute of Health Policy & Management – Erasmus
University Rotterdam (EUR) (from AY 2013-14)
 Limited number of seats available. We allocate them
using your admission grade + proficiency in English +
motivation letter.
