Growing Deeper in 2016 TH E SPIRITU AL ECO N O M Y – LEVITICU S CH APTER 25 This week Pastor Ray uncovered the many beautiful attributes of God’s economy as he articulated the Lord’s order of the seven feasts, the seventh day Sabbath, the seventh Sabbatical year of rest for the land and the Super Sabbatical year known as the year of Jubilee. READ Genesis 2:3, Leviticus 25:2, Isaiah 66:22 -23 & Hebrews 4:9-11 – The word Sabbath has its origins in the Hebrew word Shabbat, from a root meaning "to cease, desist, or rest." a. From the above four readings discuss with your group why the Lord desires for His people, both Jew and Gentile, to understand the true meaning and purpose of rest. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- b. Discuss with your group the difference between physical rest and spiritual rest and how do you see the Lord using the former to teach the latter? When the Israelites began to disregard the Lord’s seventh Sabbatical year of rest for the land, Pastor Ray mentioned that the Israelites observed there appeared to be no consequence / rebuke from God and therefore it must not be a serious offense to the Lord. a. What was the end result for Israel after 490 years of not honoring the seventh Sabbatical year, and what lesson do we learn today when we are aware of our own sin, yet see no immediate rebuke? READ Deuteronomy 5:1 & Leviticus 25:8 -10 - In God’s economy, the releasing of debt Growing Deeper in 2016 was a very important teaching and commandment. In the year of Jubilee, everyone that had been indebted was then released from that debt and able to start over again by having their land returned to them. a. READ Leviticus 25:9 with Colossians 2:13 -15 - The Hebrew word for “liberty” is also translated freedom. Discuss how the releasing of debt in Leviticus is a shadow of something to come, being fulfilled in Christ. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ b. 4. 5) The word “jubilee” is from the Hebrew word “yobel” or yovel” meaning “a ram’s horn or trumpet”. What is the significance of the Jubilee year (year of liberty & freedom) commencing on the Day of Atonement? Discuss… Kinsman Redeemer: Four things were required in order for a kinsman to redeem: 1) He must be near of kin. (Leviticus 25:48; 25:25 & Ruth 3:12-13) 2) He must be able to redeem (Ruth 4:4-6) and must be free of any calamity or need of redemption himself. 3) He must be willing to redeem (Ruth 3:13 & 4:6) 4) Redemption was completed when the price was completely paid (Leviticus 25:27; Ruth 4:711 & John 19:30). Using Scripture, How would you describe Jesus as your kin / close relative fulfilling the above requirements? How does the story of the Kinsman Redeemer fulfilled in Christ impact / deepen your faith? Discuss....
