It's our first Tournament of the Summer School Holidays and we were one of 19 teams competing
in our age group. The 19 teams were split into two groups: Group A (consisting of 9 teams) and
Group B (10 teams, which included ourselves). Each team would play against all of the other
teams within their group once. Each game would last 8 minutes. 3 points would be awarded to a
team for every win, 2 points for every score draw and 1 point for every no-score draw. After the
end of the group stage, the top four teams from each group with the most points would progress to
the quarter finals.

Summary
It was an early start for everyone but we didn't have to wait long before our first game.
Games 1-3
We started brightly with good passing and urgency. Everyone was playing well with Sam being in
particularly sharp form in front of the opponents goal and we comfortably won our opening three
games, scoring 9 goals (5 from Sam, 2 from Cameron and one each from Harry and Jack), whilst
conceding just 1.
Games 4-6
We could not maintain the early momentum though, drawing all of our next three games and
crucially we didn’t score in two of those games. However, we showed great character in game 6 to
come from 2-0 down against Sale United 'A' to earn a 2-2 draw thanks to some great saves from
Connor and goals from Joe and Sam.
Game 7
Following our game 7 victory against Northside, which included a brace of goals from Harry and
one from Marcus, a quick dash across to the Group B scoreboard showed us to be in second
place. But with a number of other teams close behind us, it was going to be a nail-biting last
couple of group games.
Game 8
Knowing that we would be playing the runaway Group B leaders Waterloo in a difficult last game, a
win was required against Grasshoppers to guarantee our progression to the next stage.
Unfortunately, we couldn't score and when Grasshoppers scored late on, we knew that our
chances of staying in the tournament were slim.
Game 9
We now needed at least a draw against Waterloo in our final group game but almost immediately
after the kick-off, Waterloo scored. A few minutes later Waterloo scored again and now we really
had a battle on our hands to get back on level terms. Lucas bravely defended, whilst at the other
end we had a couple of chances, but any chance of drawing level was put beyond our reach when
Waterloo scored their third.
Although all the boys were disappointed with not making the quarter finals, everyone enjoyed the
tournament. Thanks to all the parents, grandparents, families and friends for your great support
throughout. Finally, a special thanks to Connor from the Eagles for braving the Lions Den.
