Overview
• In 1993, the Regional Public Transportation Authority
Board adopted the name Valley Metro as the identity
for the regional transit system in the Phoenix
metropolitan area. Under the Valley Metro brand, local
governments joined to fund the Valley-wide transit
system that the public sees on the streets today.
• Valley Metro is a federally registered trademark. Under
which, three organizations operate.

Operational Considerations

• One facility located in Tempe

Personnel Considerations
• Currently, bus operators for the City of Phoenix,
City of Tempe have union personnel and have
work agreements in place that may restrict work
hours, runs, locations, etc.
• RPTA’s Mesa operations are unionized; however,
its Glendale, and Ajo operations do not have
unionized personnel.
