2015/16 Game Report Team Opposition Home/Away Competition Date Score Newcastle Eagles Under 18 Men Derby Trailblazers H EBL Under 18’s North Premier 16th January 2016 Newcastle Eagles 82 - 96 Derby Trailblazers Report The Eagles playing in black at home in front of a crowd of over 40 looked to get a double over the Trailblazers who they had edged in OT in October…. The game was played at a very fast and furious pace for all 4 quarters and some very dubious officiating also added to the mix… The visitors jumped out to an early 0-7 lead within two minutes before the Eagles settled down and found some rhythm and by the 5th minute it was 13-8 with Murphy hitting back to back 3s…. The period ended with the Eagles up 25-20… The 2nd quarter saw the home team again play some exquisite basketball on offence and they knuckled down on the defence holding the visitors in white to 18 points putting 23 on the board making it 48-38 at the half way point….. The 3rd period was another close affair with the Trailblazers edging it 22-24 making it 70-62 with 10 minutes to play…. No one in the venue could see what was about to happen as the visitors seemed to find another gear on offence as the Eagles tired and lost their focus on defence conceding six 3s as they slumped to a very poor fourth quarter loss of 12-34… The Eagles ran into foul trouble and along with a lot of missed shots/ chances they stopped scoring… Going down the stretch and the Eagles looking to get the ball back the Trailblazers hit 10 consecutive free throws… The final score was 82-96… (12-34) Coach Heath said he was totally miffed by what he had seen in the final quarter as his team rolled over and died under the pressure of the visitors hitting a hot streak where his troops dried up on offence…. “We played such great basketball for 30 minutes and then we went to pieces… We will try to recover now ready for another trip to Birmingham to play Team Elite….” Eagles Top Scorers- Tom Usher 26, Sean Murphy 20 and Aaron Wilson 9….
