How we study cell?
Role Of Microscope In The
Discovery Of Cell:
Explanation:
In 17th century invention and
improvement of microscope.
 Indispensable tools for the study of cell.
 Microscopes first used by Renaissance
scientists

Microscopy
Two important parameters in microscopy
are;
 1)Magnification.


2)Resolving Power/Resolution.
Magnification:
In microscopy “magnification” is the ratio
of an object to its real size.
 Resolving Power:
Is a measure of the clarity of the image.
OR
It is the minimum distance two points
can be separated and still be
distinguished as two separate points

Light Microscopes:

Limits 0.2 micro meter.

1,000 times the size of actual specimen.

Improvements in 20th century.

Cell biology advanced rapidly in 1950,
invention of electron microscope
Electron Microscope
Focus a beam of electrons.
 Resolving power is inversely related to
the wavelength of radiations a
microscope used.
 Shorter than visible light wavelength.
 Limits only about 2nm

Types
1)Transmission electron microscope.
2)Scanning electron microscope.
