What if the customer does not want a UPS?
• Avaya sell 99.999% of availability to their customers
• Power is only 99.9% reliable at the best of times
• Therefore you cannot sell 99.999% availability if you do not include the UPS
• The customer can experience early product failure and increased maintenance
calls without an Avaya UPS – this is a cost to Avaya and to the customer
• All Avaya customers should use “online, double conversion” UPS
• The best UPS protection available is the Avaya range of UPS
• “Line interactive” or “Standby” UPS are not suitable for your applications
• For more info on UPS technology see

What if the customer already has a UPS?
• The customer may already have a UPS for their complete room
• The customer should seriously consider another UPS for their Avaya system:
• You can only offer 99.999% availability if you use the tested and approved Avaya UPS!
• The large UPS may not have enough battery time (most UPS are 15 minutes, the
average Avaya UPS is 4 hours!)
• The Avaya UPS is shipped ready to integrate with Avaya Communication Manager –
power cables, software, SNMP management, Avaya grey colour
• The Avaya UPS is recognized by the Avaya “Integrated Management” suite for
immediate network management of your solution
• When lots of equipment is connected to a large UPS, this equipment can damage the
quality of the large UPS output and therefore have bad effects on the Avaya equipment.
Therefore we always recommend a dedicated Avaya UPS for an Avaya solution
– NOTE: It is OK to connect an Avaya UPS to a larger, existing UPS, when the existing UPS is
more than 4x the size of the Avaya UPS. For example, it would be OK to connect an Avaya
1000VA UPS to a 4000VA UPS, but not OK to connect it to another 1000VA UPS

What if the customer wants to buy their UPS from
someone else?
• If the customer wants to buy their UPS from someone else, this is OK, but they
must make sure the UPS…
• Is “online”, “double conversion” – “line interactive” or “standby” is not normally suitable
– Other UPS may work, but only the Avaya UPS is tested & approved for use with Avaya systems
• Has SNMP communications with Web-management and remote alert features
– Only the Avaya UPS will integrate with Avaya “Integrated Management” suite
– You need SNMP ability to communicate with the S8700 media servers
• Make sure the customer understands that Avaya are not responsible for power
– The Avaya UPS has a complete electrical installation offer, as well as maintenance and response
service at the same level as the Avaya telephone equipment – a one-stop-shop. This is not the
same with other UPS

• It is possible to use just one UPS for the whole solution but:
• Should be used only when price is the most important factor
• If the customer understands that they will lose some system reliability & redundancy
• Batteries & Rackmounting:
• If you wish to rackmount the Avaya UPS, you should offer one rail kit for each UPS and
battery (4-post: 700230733, 2-post: 700230741)
• If you wish to extend the UPS runtime, add additional batteries (1000VA: 408357044,
1500/2000VA: 408357051 or 408357069, 3000VA: 700285273 or 700285307)
• Note: these are automatically configured for you on www.avayaups.com
