POSITION OBJECTIVES:
This is a multi-skilled position that contributes to the operational success of the Financial
Reporting through the provision of accurate and timely maintenance of Council financial
information.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with journal input, ledger update and error correction as required.
Prepare reconciliations.
Provide backup for the administration of the Purchasing Card online system.
Provide backup for the completion of the monthly BAS statement
Make a positive personal contribution to the successful operation of the Financial Reporting
team by participating in the development of it into an efficient, effective and customer-focused
team operating as a business unit with a strong commercial focus.
6. Complete administrative functions in an accurate and timely manner including the use of
computer systems.
7. Adhere to all Council’s policies and procedures relevant to this position.
8. Carry out other duties as deemed reasonable and appropriate to the role as directed from time
to time.

Manual handling tasks.
Prolonged periods of inactivity eg. sitting at the computer.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
1. Sound experience in financial management and cost analysis.
2. Sound understanding of financial software systems including excel.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organise and manage own time and to achieve targets
within a set timetable .
4. Strong customer focus and ability to liaise at management level.
Desirable:
5. A tertiary qualification in finance, business management or other relevant discipline.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND EXTENT OF AUTHORITY:




Contribute to the efficient and effective output of tasks by providing direct support and
assistance to other officers, in accordance with legislative guidelines, customer needs and
nominated timeframes.
Make a positive contribution to the operation and success of the area including process
improvement and a commitment to quality.
This position is required to interact with customers and provide feedback to ensure the highest
level of service is maintained at all times.
Accountable for creating and capturing accurate and complete records of the business
activities related to this position, in accordance with approved policy and procedures. This is
applicable to both hardcopy and electronic information, including email.

JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING:



The position involves the completion of allocated tasks and finding solutions to technical
problems.
The objectives are well defined, with the incumbent able to make decisions on the
methodology within the constraints of authorised practices.
Guidance and advice is always available within the time available to make decisions.
SPECIALIST SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:




Substantial knowledge of Accounting principles and procedures
Intermediate level Microsoft applications – Excel and Word.
Sound financial reconciliation skills and cost analysis ability.
An appreciation of the goals of the wider organisation.
MANAGEMENT SKILLS:



Efficient and effective planning and use of own time in the setting of priorities to achieve
specific and set objectives within set time-frames.
Ability to respond positively to change.
Ability to provide input into process improvement and improved customer service.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:




High level oral skills to enable clear and effective communication with staff and clients to assist
with enquiries and to pass on information and instructions.
High level written communication skills to enable effective preparation of draft reports and
correspondence on matters relating to field of expertise.
Ability to demonstrate integrity, responsibility, respect and innovation in all aspects of the
position.
Flexibility to ensure that tasks can be assigned within the office on a needs basis.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


Satisfactory completion of VCE.
Several years experience in an accounting or finance environment.
