The Beaufort County Education Association Holds
Every Student Succeeds (ESSA)
Town Hall Meeting on Monday, February 6
The purpose of this town hall meeting is to inform educators, parents, students
and the community about how ESSA will improve student success
(Beaufort) The Beaufort County Education Association (The BCEA) will host an Every Student
Succeeds Act (ESSA) Town Hall Meeting on Monday, February 6, 2017 in the auditorium of
The Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL) at 921 Ribaut Road in Beaufort. ESSA is the
Federal education law signed into place in November 2015, which among other benefits, allows
states and local educators more control in enacting localized education policy.
There will be a reception from 5:30 to 6:10 p.m., and the Town Hall will begin at 6:15 p.m. and
run until approximately 7:30 p.m. Parents of Beaufort area school children as well as members of
the public are encouraged to attend.
Confirmed panelists include a representative from The South Carolina Education Association
(The SCEA), the National Education Association (NEA), the SC PTA, the SC Black Chamber of
Commerce, the SC Department of Education and Beaufort County School District.
The purpose of the Beaufort ESSA Town Hall is to bring together educators, parents, students
and the community to learn about how ESSA provides our schools with opportunities to take
action to improve student success. ESSA specifically requires educator and parent voice in the
development of state and local accountability plans. Further, The BCEA seeks to gather feedback
and recommendations for implementation from attendees and hear from a variety of stakeholders
about their vision of the kinds of schools that Beaufort County students deserve.
